The Senior Engineering Manager, Software Architecture will work with most product teams; PitchBook is embracing the Team Topology and Stream Aligned Teams structure, this role will engage across all stream aligned teams, Platform Team, Enabling Team(s), and Complex Subsystems teams.
You will also be actively engaging with the broader PitchBook Architecture function which include other geographically distributed managers and architects.
As a Senior Engineering Manager, Software Architecture within the Product organization, you will be responsible for leading a talented team of software architects geographically distributed, and architecting and delivering the next suite of services that power the PitchBook platform. You will be essential in guiding multiple teams to build exceptional solutions relied upon and used by thousands of PitchBook customers every day, and work with PitchBook professionals around the world with the collective goal of delighting our customers and growing our business.
Primary Job Responsibilities
Lead, mentor, and manage a team of Staff and Senior Staff software architects, fostering their professional growth and development
Conduct regular performance reviews, provide constructive feedback, and set clear goals and expectations for the team
Build a collaborative and innovative team environment, encouraging knowledge sharing and continuous improvement
Manage resource allocation and team capacity to meet project demands and strategic initiatives
Define and prioritize the work for the architecture team, aligning it with product roadmaps and business objectives
Oversee and support the architecture team to create and evolve our software architecture vision, strategy, and roadmaps
Guide the team in designing high-level architectural solutions for complex software systems
Establish and manage team ceremonies (e.g., architecture review boards, design sessions, backlog grooming) to ensure effective collaboration and decision-making
Refine and improve architectural processes and workflows to enhance team efficiency and output quality
Define, implement, and enforce architectural standards, principles, and best practices across all engineering teams
Ensure the quality, consistency, and integrity of architectural designs and documentation
Conduct architectural reviews and provide technical guidance to ensure solutions meet non-functional requirements (scalability, performance, security, maintainability)
Champion a culture of technical excellence and adherence to architectural guidelines
Deep engagement with team of Architects to design, develop, and maintain components of PitchBook’s services including backend with aspects of front-end related to architecture (micro front-end patterns). Some dands-on development will be part of the responsibilities
Ensure qualities/non-functional requirements of the platforms and products are defined, measurable and are continuously evaluated to deliver the right product to our users
Document architecture evolutions (current state, future state, phasing), communicate architecture and elaborate with teams
Collaborate with other engineers, product managers, and other internal stakeholders in an Agile environment
Provide technical guidance and perform architectural reviews with team members
Design and deliver on end-to-end initiatives with little to no guidance
Define and participate in processes that improve products using return on experience, root cause analysis of incidents
Support the vision and values of the company through role modeling and encouraging desired behaviors
Participate in various company initiatives and projects as requested
Skills And Qualifications
Degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or a similar field
Minimum of 12 years of related experience with a Bachelor’s degree; or 8 years and a Master’s degree; or a PhD with 6 years experience
10+ years in Software Development or Engineering roles
6+ years of experience managing (Software manager, Engineering manager) a team of Staff Level Architects
5+ years of experience with Java or a similar object-oriented language
4+ years of experience developing micro service
Experienced in Service-Oriented & Microservices Architecture, Cloud Architecture, Domain Driven Design (DDD), Clean Architecture, Hexagonal Architecture, Domain Driven Design
Fluent in identifying and applying architecture patterns, designing RESTful API
Have worked on middleware, platform, or system of systems
Experienced with web technologies and standards (e.g., JSON, JWT)
Experienced with Amazon Web Services (AWS) and/or Google Cloud Platform (GCP)
Experienced in Spring Boot/Spring Framework
Experienced with Container orchestration software (e.g., Kubernetes)
Experienced in using AI tools for productivity and efficiency (github copilot, claude code, gemini cli or other similar technology)
Highly experienced working within development teams in an Agile environment
Ability to handle a project through the entire software development lifecycle, end to end
Demonstrate ability to lead and/or provide guidance to junior peers across multiple teams
Excellent communication skills, written and verbal
Strong problem-solving ability
Proficiency with the Microsoft Office suite including in-depth knowledge of Outlook, Word and Excel with the ability to pick up new systems and software easily
Must be authorized to work in the United States without the need for visa sponsorship now or in the future

Compensation
Annual base salary: $250,000-$310,000
Target annual bonus percentage: 20%
