Senior Backend Wagtail Developer
Our client is seeking a Senior Backend Wagtail Developer to lead the design, evolution, and reliability of a sophisticated content platform supporting multiple sites and environments. This individual will combine deep backend expertise with modern cloud and DevOps practices, acting as a trusted technical partner who can both stabilize and thoughtfully advance the platform. The ideal candidate brings a proactive mindset, strong architectural judgment, and curiosity around emerging technologies such as AI‑driven capabilities.
This role is fully remote.
Responsibilities
Own and evolve the backend architecture of a complex, multi‑site Wagtail CMS implementation.
Customize and extend Wagtail and Django functionality, including admin behavior, rendering logic, and content models.
Design and build advanced components such as custom Blocks, templates, and reusable site features.
Lead DevOps efforts across cloud environments, ensuring reliable CI/CD pipelines and smooth deployments.
Continuously improve system performance, security, and deployment workflows across development, staging, and production.
Qualifications
Extensive experience with Python, Django, and Wagtail CMS in production environments.
Strong understanding of Wagtail internals and the ability to extend and customize the framework.
Hands‑on experience with Google Cloud Platform services, including Cloud Build, Cloud SQL, Cloud Storage, and Secrets Manager.
Proven background in DevOps practices, containerization, CI/CD pipelines, and PostgreSQL‑backed applications.
Exposure to integrating AI or LLM‑driven features into web platforms, such as content generation, search, or automation.
