Director - Transmission Operations Avangrid is seeking a Director of Transmission Operations to lead strategic, operational, and regulatory excellence across our transmission system. This role reports to the VP of Electric Operations and is responsible for ensuring safe, reliable, and cost‑effective transmission services, while driving innovation and cross‑functional collaboration.

Base Salary $153,000 - $191,000, dependent upon experience and location.

Job Summary The Director will oversee major transmission projects, manage emergency response coordination, and represent the company with regulators, municipalities, and industry groups. Key responsibilities include execution of Transmission and Distribution programs, such as Transmission Line Inspection (TLI) and Wood Pole Inspection and Treatment (WPIT), and corrective maintenance.

Key Responsibilities

Strategic Leadership & Planning: Develop and execute the annual business plan, align strategies with corporate goals for safety, reliability, sustainability, and customer satisfaction, and monitor performance metrics.

Operational Oversight: Lead daily field operations, including system maintenance, outage response, asset management, and compliance with federal, state, and local regulations (NYISO, FERC). Oversee vegetation management and transmission programs.

Process Improvement & Innovation: Evaluate and enhance work processes, promote continuous improvement, and leverage technology and dashboards to optimize performance.

Project & Resource Management: Direct major infrastructure projects, coordinate with internal teams, manage contractor relationships, and ensure quality and safety standards.

People Leadership: Set performance goals, develop direct reports, foster a high‑performance culture, and mentor future leaders.

Stakeholder Engagement: Represent the company in industry forums, regulatory meetings, public engagements, and during emergencies.

Required Qualifications Education and Experience:

Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering, business, or related discipline with a minimum of 10 years of relevant experience.

Associate’s degree with 14 years of relevant experience.

High School Diploma with 18 years of relevant experience.

Prior supervisory/management experience.

Deep understanding of transmission system design, operations, and regulatory requirements.

Proven experience in budget management, project execution, and performance optimization.

Strong leadership, communication, and negotiation skills.

Ability to manage complex problems and drive strategic solutions.

Familiarity with transmission vegetation management and asset lifecycle planning.

Ability to manage multiple projects under tight deadlines.

Preferred Qualifications

Master’s degree in engineering, business administration, or related field.

Experience with NYISO/FERC compliance and transmission reliability standards.

Demonstrated ability to lead cross‑functional teams and drive enterprise‑wide initiatives.

Strong business acumen and commercial thinking.

Experience in mentoring and talent development across geographic boundaries.

Ability to foster innovation and lead change in a dynamic environment.
