Stage 32, LLC
Screenwriter/consultant - a job post by Laura Delay
Title:
The Grandfather’s Journal Format:
Feature Film (Historical Drama / True Story) Location:
Remote or Atlanta-based preferred Compensation:
Paid (open to negotiation based on experience)
Project Overview: I’m seeking a screenwriter or script consultant to help develop a feature film based on a real 1934 family journal. The story begins with a young Brooklyn father writing after the death of his infant son. His handwritten journal — beginning with the line “This journal will describe how the days go after the death of our baby” — becomes a quiet, intimate record of grief, resilience, and love during the Great Depression.
The film will be character-driven, emotionally grounded, and historically rich — in the tone of Brooklyn, A Tree Grows in Brooklyn, or The Notebook. The journal is a real family artifact, and I’ve written a 1–2 page story summary that captures the arc and tone. I’m now looking for a collaborator to help shape the treatment and/or screenplay.
Experienced in true story adaptations
Comfortable with historical or period drama
Skilled in emotionally subtle, character-driven storytelling
Sensitive to themes of grief, healing, and family legacy
Open to collaboration with the story’s real-life descendant
Treatment (10–20 pages) or screenplay outline
Potential for full script collaboration if there’s a strong fit
To Apply:
Please send a short note about your background, relevant writing samples (or links), and why this project resonates with you. I’m especially interested in writers who value emotional truth and quiet storytelling.
Thank you for considering this deeply personal and meaningful project. — Laura
