Senior Android Software Engineer – Urology Division
Base pay range: $50.00/hr - $65.00/hr
Location: Irvine, CA (remote work options available). Actual pay will be based on skills and experience.
Responsibilities
Lead technical activities to customize and secure the Android OS (v5) for use in advanced medical devices.
Analyze, modify, and harden the Android OS to address cybersecurity vulnerabilities and ensure regulatory compliance.
Integrate third‑party libraries and drivers, maintaining robust software traceability and documentation.
Adapt and refactor applications for compatibility with custom Android builds.
Optimize system performance, resource management, and hardware interfaces.
Collaborate with cross‑functional teams—including cybersecurity, systems, and quality engineers—to deliver a secure, reliable platform.
Conduct OS‑level verification and validation in accordance with IEC 62304 and internal standards.
Support risk analysis and mitigation activities per ISO 14971.
Contribute to comprehensive software documentation and participate in technical reviews and audits.
Play a key role in integration testing and root cause analysis for OS‑related issues.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or a related field.
7+ years of professional software engineering experience, with at least 3 years focused on Android OS development or customization.
Hands‑on expertise with AOSP, Android build systems, and kernel‑level modifications.
Strong knowledge of embedded systems, Linux internals, and Android application frameworks.
Experience working in regulated environments (medical device, aerospace, automotive, or defense).
Familiarity with IEC 62304, ISO 14971, IEC 60601, and related standards.
Understanding of cybersecurity risk assessment, threat modeling, and vulnerability remediation for embedded platforms.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience with Android OS version 5 or legacy Android platforms in long‑lifecycle products.
Advanced debugging, profiling, and reverse‑engineering skills.
Prior involvement in device certification and regulatory submissions.
Excellent communication and documentation skills for technical and compliance deliverables.
