Brief Description
Vitalant is seeking a
National Biotherapies Account Director
to advance our life‑saving mission by expanding Donor Characterization partnerships that help bring new therapies to patients faster. In this strategic role, you’ll lead efforts to build and grow business opportunities that rely on deep donor insights—strengthening our position as a trusted partner for organizations developing innovative biotherapies. You’ll guide national sales strategy, cultivate high‑impact customer relationships, and drive top‑line revenue for the Vitalant Biotherapies Division.
Remote : This position can work remotely from a work at home office anywhere in the United States.

As a National Biotherapies Account Director, You’ll Get To
Build and manage a robust customer pipeline by identifying high‑value organizations aligned with Vitalant’s geographic footprint and long‑term growth strategy.
Lead comprehensive strategic account planning efforts, including yearly cross‑functional planning sessions and the creation of detailed account plans for major revenue customers.
Strengthen and expand relationships with senior hospital and health‑system leaders, positioning Vitalant as a trusted partner.
Collaborate closely with hospital sales teams to craft effective, service‑specific Biotherapies messaging and support contract renewal strategies.
Conduct ongoing customer meetings to convert prospects, deepen existing partnerships, improve service utilization, and proactively resolve issues.
Coordinate internal resources across Sales, Operations, and technical teams to address customer needs and introduce new products or services.
Analyze customer utilization patterns, service level trends, and inventory management data, providing clear and actionable reporting.
Manage the full contracting lifecycle—including preparation, negotiation, and implementation—for multiple Biotherapies service lines.
Maintain CRM and contract management systems with high accuracy while monitoring competitive activity and emerging market trends.
Participate in national and regional team meetings to discuss performance metrics and collective progress toward Biotherapies growth and service objectives.
Requirements
Knowledge / Education
Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and experience required.
Thorough knowledge of all aspects of sales and marketing required, including business management, financial management forecasting, and sales training.
Strong knowledge of the healthcare industry required, with a special emphasis on the cell and gene biotherapies market.
Knowledge of hospital and health system operations and purchasing preferred.
Experience
Five years sales and marketing experience in the Advanced Therapies, cell, and gene market or in biological, pharmaceutical, blood service, tissue, medical device, or plasma industry required.
Large account or large territory experience required.
Experience in price and contract negotiation required.
Experience in building lines of business required and building sales operations processes preferred.
Two years sales management preferred.
Knowledge of blood industry preferred.
Skills / Abilities
Must possess the skills and abilities to successfully perform all assigned duties and responsibilities.
Must be able to maintain confidentiality.
Able to organize, prioritize, and execute a variable workload and multiple priorities.
Effective oral and written communication skills.
Ability to think strategically, synthesize complex business and financial data, and develop innovative solutions for a client.
Ability to participate in development of strategic planning for the Biotherapies business and translate that strategy into a relevant book of business with clients.
Ability to establish priorities and follow through on projects, paying close attention to detail with minimal supervision.
Ability to work in a team environment.
Ability to analyze and prepare data to a variety of external and internal stakeholders.
Must have proficient computer skills.
Ability to travel (50%+).
