The University of Hawai‘i at Manoa School of Nursing and Dental Hygiene (UH Manoa SONDH) invites qualified applicants for one (1) nontenure-eligible, 9-month, faculty position at 50% full-time equivalent. Specific priority of need is psychiatric-mental health in the Doctorate of Nursing Practice (DNP) Program. Faculty assigned as a specialty track coordinator may be eligible for an 11-month appointment during the period of assignment. The position is expected to begin approximately March 2026 or as mutually acceptable. Renewal of appointment is dependent on performance, program needs and/or availability of funds. Assistant/Associate Instructor Duties and Responsibilities:
Teach and/or coordinate assigned courses primarily in the graduate nursing program. Specific priority of need is psychiatric mental health nurse practitioner for the Doctorate of Nursing Program.
Participate in curriculum development activities as appropriate or assigned.
Participate in didactic, lab practicum and clinical settings.
May serve as specialty track coordinator if the candidate has a doctorate degree and appointed.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Assistant Instructor (I2A) Minimum Qualifications:
Master’s degree in Nursing from an accredited college or university;
Current (or be eligible for) unrestricted RN license to practice in Hawai‘i;
National board certification as a psychiatric-mental health nurse practitioner;
Current (or be eligible for) unrestricted APRN license to practice in Hawai‘i;
One year of full-time work experience in the area of advanced practice nursing specialty;
Engaged in professional practice with a similar patient population and level of patient acuity where they will be assigned for the purpose of supervising nursing students;
Demonstrated ability to teach effectively, provide clinical supervision, provide student feedback, and direct group discussion;
Demonstrated professionalism in meeting and conferring with others;
Demonstrated competency in interprofessional team work and team science.
Associate Instructor (I2B) Minimum Qualifications In addition to those of Assistant Instructor, Associate Instructor minimum qualifications include:
A minimum of four years of service as an I2A, or equivalent;
Evidence of increasing proficiency in ability to teach effectively, direct group discussions, and/or to provide clinical supervision; and professionalism in meeting and conferring with others.
Assistant/Associate Instructor Desirable Qualifications:
Doctoral degree in nursing or related field from a college or university of recognized standing;
Coursework in curriculum development and health sciences education;
Demonstrated competency in Evidence Based Practice and DNP Scholarly projects;
Experience supervising nursing advanced practice practicum students.
