The Client Our client is an early-stage healthcare startup rethinking health insurance to reduce friction for doctors and patients. They work closely with direct primary care providers and build backend systems that make insurance easier to use, more affordable, and more human.
Software Engineer (Data Platform) As a Software Engineer (Data Platform), you will join a
5-person engineering team , where backend systems and data pipelines directly power claims processing, provider payments, EHR integrations, and internal healthcare operations. Your work will sit at the core of the business, ensuring providers are paid accurately, patients receive seamless care, and internal teams can scale efficiently.
You will work cross-functionally with Operations, Engineering, and other stakeholders to translate complex healthcare workflows into reliable, production-grade systems. This role reports into engineering leadership and offers significant ownership in shaping the company’s data platform as it grows and launches new products.
Your work will have a direct, real-world impact on how healthcare is delivered and paid for.
What You’ll Do The engineering team builds backend and data systems that power modern health insurance. In this role, you will:
Design, build, and scale data pipelines and backend systems supporting claims, payments, and healthcare operations
Develop automations for provider notifications, patient support workflows, and internal operations
Own data flows across ingestion, transformation, validation, and persistence
Partner cross-functionally with Operations, Engineering, and business stakeholders to understand workflows and reduce manual overhead
Rapidly prototype solutions and refactor them into clean, maintainable production code
Contribute to the long-term evolution of the data platform as data volume and product scope increase
Example Projects You Might Work On
Building and scaling Python-based pipelines to generate and process insurance claims on behalf of providers
Developing EHR integrations to ingest, normalize, and validate healthcare data from multiple vendors
Designing provider payment and reimbursement workflows to ensure accurate, timely payouts
Automating patient support and internal operational workflows to reduce manual intervention
Refactoring existing backend systems to improve reliability, observability, and scalability
Basic Requirements
5+ years
of professional software engineering experience (4+ years considered for exceptional candidates)
Strong
Python
experience, including refactoring and maintaining production code
Experience designing and operating
data pipelines, ETLs, or backend systems
at scale
Experience working with
relational databases
such as PostgreSQL
Strong communication skills and ability to explain technical decisions to non-technical stakeholders
Comfort working in ambiguous, fast-moving startup environments
Preferred Requirements
Startup experience, especially at
10–50 person companies
Familiarity with
Flask, FastAPI, SQLAlchemy
Experience working with large or messy datasets
Healthcare or healthtech experience (claims, EHRs, vendor integrations)
Thoughtful experience using
AI tools
in regulated environments
