Responsibilities & Qualifications

We are seeking an experienced, high caliber Packaging Engineer onsite at our Pleasanton, CA location. This position will support gap assessments, remediation, and compliance to the EU Packaging Waste Regulation (PPWR) in order to meet program milestones for the Packaging Engineering team in the Heart Failure division.

Drive gap assessments in packaging material characteristics in support of Extend Producer Requirements (EPR).

Communicate and gather packaging material information from several different external suppliers. Maintain large excel files ensuring accuracy and completeness for PPWR compliance.

Execute change orders in the Windchill product lifecycle management software impacting manufacturing process documentation, product BOM structure, product/component specification changes & improvements.

Gain cross functional alignment on updating packaging specifications in support of PPWR declarations of conformity or certification of compliance.

Author testing protocols and reports as required to support PPWR heavy metal compliance of packaging materials.

Work in multiple time zones across the US and Europe to align multiple Abbott manufacturing sites. Be a subject matter expert in interpretation of the EU Packaging Waste Regulation (PPWR).

Complies with U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) regulations, other regulatory requirements, Company policies, operating procedures, processes, and task assignments.

Maintains positive and cooperative communications and collaboration with all levels of employees, customers, contractors, and vendors.

Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical, Industrial, or Packaging Engineering, or equivalent.

Minimum 2 years of relevant engineering experience.

Ability to work in a highly matrixed and geographically diverse business environment.

Ability to work within a team and as an individual contributor in a fast-paced, changing environment.

Ability to leverage and/or engage others to accomplish projects.

Strong verbal and written communications with ability to effectively communicate at multiple levels in the organization.

Multitasks, prioritizes and meets deadlines in a timely manner.

Strong organizational and follow-up skills, as well as attention to detail (Preferred).

Previous experience in packaging of medical device manufacturing.
