The Commodities Change team supports Operations, Tech, and Business teams to drive progress on key initiatives that enable business growth, capacity creation, and compliance with regulatory requirements. The team is engaged across the trade lifecycle from trade booking through to regulatory reporting. Successful delivery of projects requires an understanding of fixed income markets, business needs, and an ability to evaluate the current as well as desired future state of the infrastructure. The candidate will be responsible for leading and overseeing a global portfolio of projects for the Commodities function which reports into the global Commodities Operations lead.
Portfolio Responsibilities
Delivering an industry‑leading operations and technology platform covering trade entry, trade affirmation, allocation, and external connectivity to affirmation platforms
Designing and delivering strategic change to the technology and processes necessary to support the Commodities businesses
Defining the future vision for operational processes, organizational models, and technology platforms
Performing detailed business analysis in order to understand and resolve current issues and develop future strategic change
Take responsibility for the definition and realization of business cases including cost and risk reduction opportunities and conceive innovative strategic solutions through software delivery, re‑engineering opportunities or other business transformation activity, through connection with external bodies and industry forums as appropriate
Supervise a team of project managers and business analysts and be accountable for overseeing multiple projects through multiple phases with ultimate responsibility for successful delivery of the portfolio on‑time and in budget
Effectively manage ongoing dynamic demand and resource planning to meet the needs of multiple regional stakeholders, including Sales and Trading, Legal and Compliance, Risk Management, Technology, Finance and Operations line teams
In addition to overseeing the team’s work, be proactive and find opportunities to lead individual initiatives to deliver impact. Experience of managing projects or engagements and their associated budgets is essential
Create and execute practical and comprehensive implementation plans and partner with all levels of management and stakeholders to gain consensus
Create and lead forums and working groups with senior participants to drive the portfolio, provide status updates, elevate issues, and resolve conflicts
Manage silo and cross‑silo projects and report progress, risks and issues; ensure benefits are tracked and realised; and manage and maintain vendor relationships in order to deliver on projects
Design and deliver operating model concepts; develop strong partnerships with IT colleagues to design, develop, and implement technology solutions
Understand the detail of industry and regulatory change driving projects, participate in industry forums
Key Qualifications & Skills
Knowledge of the Commodities business and trade lifecycle especially operational activities involved in managing trade processing, expiry, margin and settlement processes
Strong stakeholder management and communication skills; able to articulate the right level of detail based on the audience, concisely explain complex issues, and possess strong written and oral executive‑level communication skills
Experience in leading teams and large‑scale project/portfolio change management
Mobilize cross‑functional teams to resolve issues using both tactical and strategic solutions
Anticipate problems/obstacles and understand the ramifications to business. Offer workable commercial solutions, build solutions and apply lessons
Make timely, sound and commercially focused decisions balancing risk, opportunity and cost
Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, including Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Project, Visio preferred
Have the confidence to make tough decisions without 100% certainty - form own independent assessment and fairly consider others’ opinions
Actively leverage networks and use initiative to expand own and others’ understanding of front‑to‑back business process and technology
Understand when to be a leader and when to be a participant depending on what is needed to achieve the team’s goals and objectives
Challenge the conventional view constructively and respectfully; present ideas persuasively to influence others
Experience of managing projects or engagements and their associated budgets is essential

Expected base pay rates for the role will be between $180,000.00 and $250,000.00 per year at the commencement of employment. However, base pay if hired will be determined on an individualized basis and is only part of the total compensation package, which, depending on the position, may also include commission earnings, incentive compensation, discretionary bonuses, other short and long‑term incentive packages, and other Morgan Stanley sponsored benefit programs.
