Role:
As a Manufacturing Technician at VulCan Packaging, you’re at the heart of our can production line—keeping things moving from start to finish. You’ll rotate through key stations on the line, operate and maintain high-performance equipment, and jump in on changeovers and repairs to keep production running safely and efficiently.
When the line’s humming, you’re performing quality checks and making sure everything stays on track. And when something goes sideways, you jump into action—troubleshooting issues, solving problems, and getting us back up and running fast.
We’re looking for sharp thinkers who know how machines work, thrive under pressure, and aren’t afraid to get their hands dirty to keep things rolling.
Responsibilities:
- Operate and maintain front-end equipment including Cuppers, Body Makers, and Trimmers
- Set up and operate can decorators, ensuring print quality and alignment
- Monitor and maintain ovens, pin chains, and mandrels in decorator line
- Operate neckers, testers, and palletizers on the backend
- Respond quickly to equipment issues and perform necessary repairs
- Follow safety protocols to maintain a secure work environment
- Complete changeovers and coil replacements efficiently
- Monitor and adjust Heat Set Oven and TCU units
- Assist in writing and refining standard operating procedures (SOPs)
- Train and support other technicians on proper machine use and troubleshooting
- Follow FDA and environmental regulations related to production and material handling
- Identify and reduce waste while maintaining high product quality
- Job Description, Roles and Responsibilities:
- Primarily responsible for operation of assigned production equipment
- Ensure that the quality of cans operating through area of responsibility meets documented specifications
- Ensure upkeep and maintenance of primary and ancillary equipment in area of responsibility
- Operation of forklift in support of coil changeovers and finished pallets for warehousing and storage
- Other duties as necessary and assigned
- Experience troubleshooting equipment, this is a MUST for this highly technical role
- 2+ years of experience in a production, manufacturing, or mechanical role
- Strong mechanical aptitude and the ability to effectively use both hand and power tools—A MUST.
- Ability to troubleshoot issues to get the plant back online minimizing downtime—all with a cool head
- Attention to safety, quality, and environmental compliance
- Ability to train others and follow operating procedures
- Physically capable of working in confined spaces, climbing stairs, bending, lifting up to 50 lbs, and remaining on your feet for the duration of a shift.
- Basic computer skills
- Ability to pass mechanical aptitude test
- Forklift and/or scissor lift certification is a plus
- Ability to work 2pm-10pm, training during the day
- Authorized to work in the US
