Organization Overview The Appalachian Regional Commission (ARC) is an economic development entity of the federal government and 13 state governments that focuses on 423 counties across the Appalachian Region. ARC’s mission is to innovate, partner, and invest to build community capacity and strengthen economic growth in Appalachia, helping the region achieve socioeconomic parity with the rest of the United States. The Business and Workforce Investment team connects people with ARC’s grant opportunities, research, and success stories.

Position Summary ARC seeks a highly organized and collaborative team player to join the Business and Workforce Investment team as a Grants Management Specialist. The incumbent will coordinate the full life cycle of federal grants—reviewing applications, monitoring progress, issuing amendments, and closing grants—while applying federal regulations and ARC policies related to grants administered under the Appalachian Regional Development Act (ARDA) of 1965. This role reports to the Division Director and is located in Washington, DC.

Required Qualifications

Adept knowledge of and ability to apply laws, regulations, rules, policies, procedures, processes, and methods governing the administration of Federal grants, cooperative agreements, and awards, including financial methods, procedures, and practices to assess the financial stability of recipients.

Strong attention to detail, effective customer service communications, and proficiency with a variety of software including grants management applications, Excel, and Word.

Minimum of 1 year of solid grants‑management experience.

Bachelor’s degree and 3 to 5 years of relevant experience.

Core competencies: accountability, adaptability, collaboration, communication, and critical analysis.

Ability to thrive in a collaborative environment, bringing an energetic and innovative approach to the work.

Successful completion and maintenance of a background security review; U.S. citizenship required.

Ability to travel (up to 25%) and possession of a valid driver’s license.
