Description of Position
The Future Forward group at Intuitive Surgical seeks a hands‑on engineer focused on mechanical design of robotic capital equipment. This role is an exciting opportunity to join a small, innovative team in early product development for a new clinical application of surgical robotics.
Responsibilities
Design and develop complex electromechanical subsystems within a novel robotic platform. Design and procure components, prototype assembly, and builds, and develop testing and assembly fixtures and methods. Use risk assessments, industry standards, and regulatory frameworks. Conduct technical design reviews and solicit feedback on design progress. Create and maintain SolidWorks CAD databases, assemblies, components, and detailed drawings. Observe clinical cases and interview clinical experts to inform designs. Provide support for pre‑clinical and clinical labs.
Qualifications
BS or MS in Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics, Systems Engineering, or related discipline, or equivalent work experience. 3+ years of relevant experience in electromechanical and mechanism design. Experience working in cross‑functional research and development teams. Proficiency in SolidWorks CAD for design and documentation. Design for manufacturing and assembly (DFx) experience. Excellent documentation and communication skills. Travel up to 10% of the time.
Preferred Skills
Design standards knowledge (FDA QSR 21 CFR Part 820, ISO 13485, IEC 60601). Pneumatic, optical, and fluidic system design experience. GD&T and ASME/ISO drafting standards expertise. Full product development lifecycle experience: design verification, validation, and transfer. Product Lifecycle Management documentation control systems familiarity.
