GENERAL MANAGER (EPICENTER)
Position located in the Morale, Welfare and Recreation (MWR) Department, Naval Station Great Lakes, Illinois. Incumbent serves as the General Manager of the "Epicenter" Entertainment Complex (Bldg. 525) and is the subject matter expert for all Food and Beverage within MWR, providing collateral support as necessary to all food operations.
SUMMARY Incumbent is responsible for the overall operation and maintenance of a full‑service entertainment complex supporting the entire base community and eligible MWR Patrons. Duties include the planning, organization, administration, and execution of a diversified food and entertainment program that consists of 28 bowling lanes, a 175‑seat movie theater (Navy Motion Picture Service), billiards, amusement machines, sports club, bars, quick‑service restaurant, group functions/parties, catering, delivery service on base, and contracted food and beverage operations.
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
35%:
Overall management oversight of a comprehensive bowling, movie, food & beverage, and entertainment program. Coordination of all services, schedule of events and activities within the 65,000‑sq‑ft facility, and delivery operations supported through food and beverage facilities. Responsible for all funds generated, including collection, safeguarding, and deposits as directed by relevant policies. Facility and equipment maintenance, inventory control, approval of purchase requests, and direct supervision of more than 70 full‑time/part‑time employees, including an NF‑04 Catering Program Manager.
25%:
Review correspondence, reports, and oversight of audits/inspections, providing technical assistance when necessary. Periodic review of all local food and beverage operations and CNIC branding guidance. Hands‑on leadership, training, certifications, and general skill development for all food and beverage facility staff. Ensures the operation provides nutritious, affordable, and responsive food & beverage offerings, serving alcoholic beverages responsibly. Collaborates with MWR Marketing Manager on strategic marketing plans and promotions to increase program use.
25%:
Continuous evaluation of program effectiveness, adapting activities based on participant responses and program objectives. Interview, select, and train personnel, providing required orientation, training, and management. Develop program plans and annual budget requirements with supporting data for the overall department program plan, consistently analyzing and modifying plans as needed.
15%:
Acts as building and facility manager for the Epicenter (Bldg. 525) and other MWR off‑site food/bar operations. Ensures proper and timely maintenance and repair of facilities using ESAs and Maintenance Work Requests, maintains Navy Safety Standards and energy conservation practices, monitors material condition of buildings, and serves as the point of contact for Public Works Center repair personnel. Oversees grounds adjacent to the building and instructs post‑hours personnel on security procedures.
REQUIREMENTS
Must pass all applicable records and background check.
Must successfully pass the E‑Verify employment verification check. Any discrepancies must be resolved as a condition of employment.
Starting May 7, 2025, non‑affiliated individuals requesting access will need a REAL ID‑compliant driver's license or another acceptable form of identification to access CNRMA Installations.
Must be able to work a fluctuating tour of duty, including split days, evenings, weekends, and holidays.
QUALIFICATIONS A qualified candidate must possess professional knowledge gained through relevant experience, enabling competent and independent management oversight of diverse operations. Knowledge of bar and restaurant, and entertainment industry, especially bowling center, movie theater, and restaurant operations is required. Experience with MWR policies, CNIC Program Standards, Catering Standards, Navy Motion Picture Service guidance, and USBC bowling regulations is essential.
Skill in planning and executing programs that meet the needs of the Great Lakes community; effective financial and physical resource management.
Education requirements are none; salary is dependent on experience and/or education.
