Summary As a Senior Estimator at Argonaut Constructors, you play a critical role in analyzing project specifications and blueprints to create precise cost estimates for diverse construction projects. Additionally, you cultivate relationships with existing and prospective clients to foster business expansion and meet sales targets. This role demands a solid grasp of construction techniques, materials, and pricing, alongside exceptional analytical and communication abilities.

Duties and Responsibilities

Consult with clients, vendors, and Argonaut personnel to formulate estimates for projects.

Analyze project drawings, specifications, and other documents to prepare detailed cost estimates.

Evaluate and quantify project costs including materials, labor, equipment, and subcontractor bids.

Negotiate costs, follow up on submitted bids until selection is complete.

Develop and maintain client relations and communications.

Conduct well organized bid review meetings.

Follow company standards and practices and apply sound judgement to those standards.

Attend the projects close-out review meeting.

Understand project specific minority goal requirements when applicable.

Collaborate with architects, engineers, subs, and suppliers to gather necessary information for bids.

Utilize estimating software and historical data to develop cost models and pricing databases.

Present and defend cost estimates to management and clients, addressing questions and providing clarifications as needed.

Monitor industry trends, materials costs, and labor rates to ensure accurate and up-to-date estimating.

Maintain accurate records of estimates, proposals, and related documents.

Qualifications

Bachelor's in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or related field preferred.

Minimum 10 years’ experience as an Estimator.

Proven experience as an estimator in the civil engineering or construction industry.

Strong knowledge of construction methods, materials, and costs.

Proficiency in using estimating software and tools (e.g., Bluebeam, HCSS Heavy Bid).

Excellent analytical and mathematical skills with attention to detail.

Ability to interpret complex technical documents and drawings.

Strong communication and negotiation skills.

Ability to work effectively in a team environment and under tight deadlines.

Experience with project management or scheduling software is a plus.

Ability to research local jurisdiction requirements including permits and taxes.

Ability to conduct Estimator/PM handoff meetings and attend project planning meetings.

Prepare estimates for change orders as requested by Project Managers.

Ability to communicate with field operations to assure job progresses as bid.

Read and understand the bid documents.

Use historical costs for comparison.

Have excellent client relations and communication skills.

Be familiar with new technologies and market trends.

Have a thorough understanding of heavy construction equipment capabilities and crew compilations needed for executing surface and underground work.
