Overview IPS is a global leader in developing innovative solutions for consulting, architecture, engineering, project controls, procurement, construction management, and commissioning of technically complex facilities, primarily in the life sciences industry. We are looking for a dedicated Design Project Manager to join our team at our Emeryville, California office.
Responsibilities
Holds primary responsibility for the achievement of scope, cost, schedule, and quality objectives on assigned projects.
Ensures achievement of corporate goals for assigned projects.
Attends pre‑bid meetings with clients and prepares proposals in conjunction with department heads, directors, and other key individuals.
Actively assists in design budget development.
Manages client interaction on assigned projects and promotes positive relationships.
Identifies risks to the project and the corporation and works with Project Executives and the Director of Operations to mitigate risks.
Responsible for project scope control and development/communication of all change notices to the client.
Coordinates with project discipline leads to determine the scope, complexity, and planning and scheduling requirements of the projects.
Develops and maintains the Project Execution Plan.
Prepares internal monthly financial/schedule reports for the Director of Operations for each project.
Prepares monthly financial/schedule reports for the client as requested.
Enhances and facilitates project team communication and coordination.
Develops and maintains meeting minutes and Action Items/Needs List for each project.
Manages all sub‑consultants on the project.
Runs multiple simultaneous small projects.
Assists in identifying and developing innovative methods for improving project management processes and techniques against current SOPs.
Strives for continuous improvement in all internal processes.
Provides guidance and mentorship to project engineers.
Accepts responsibility for things under direct control.
Sees things going wrong and corrects them before problems arise.
Identifies areas of potential innovation and improvement for the group.
Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications & Requirements
5+ years of industry experience, at least two of which include Project Management experience.
Bachelor’s degree in engineering, architecture, or planning.
Progressive ability to plan, organize, supervise, and coordinate technical work and obtain cooperation from others.
Fundamental level of scheduling skills.
Good written and verbal communication skills.
Analytical thinking, structured problem‑solving skills, excellent communication skills, team building, and strong work ethic.
Must be able to build rapport with project staff.
Skilled in the use of IT tools, including spreadsheets, word processing, planning, and scheduling software.
Understanding of Earned Value and other project controls methods.
Promotes safety and adheres to IPS and client safety policies.
Physical Demands
Must be able to stand, sit, and walk for prolonged periods.
Must possess the ability to stoop, kneel, crouch, and crawl as required.
Must be able to lift and move objects weighing up to 25 pounds.
Must be able to climb ladders as necessary.
Work Environment
Must be able to work in both indoor and outdoor environments, which may include exposure to varying working conditions.
Must be able to adhere to strict cleanroom gowning protocol.
Travel
This position will require 5-20% travel or as required by the assigned project.
You may be assigned to a client site for an extended period.
Overnight travel or staying in the city of the client’s location is possible, depending on the assignment.
Must have access to reliable transportation.
Must have the ability to travel and commute on a daily or routine basis.
Safety
This position is a safety‐sensitive position.
The employee is designated for field work and attends activities at client sites where they work in construction, process, packaging, manufacturing, research, or other "non‑administrative" areas.

Salary Salary offered: $117,000 – $180,800, dependent on experience, skill set, and education.
