The Department of Pharmacy is committed to providing extraordinary care to our patients, including neonatal, adult, and geriatric patients. The Clinical Pharmacist I on the Central Operations/Sterile Products Team is responsible for medications getting to patients throughout the hospital as well as overseeing sterile and non‑sterile compounding, performing final verification of IV admixtures and other non‑sterile pharmaceutical products in compliance with established guidelines and regulations. The pharmacist works closely with other departments to determine the appropriateness of Total Parenteral Nutrition (TPN) orders for both adults and neonates, and processes these orders for compounding.
This position will provide support to a variety of patient populations across varying levels of acuity and complexity, including supporting emergency services. The pharmacist exercises time‑management, communication and problem‑solving skills in an exciting, fast‑paced environment, and is supported by a team of central, sterile products and clinical pharmacists, technician staff, and on‑call pharmacy programs as needed. Other responsibilities include verification of non‑sterile products, general order processing, central operations duties, technician oversight, inventory management, and other duties as assigned.
Essential Responsibilities
Practice in accordance with the laws, rules, and regulations of the Massachusetts Board of Registration in Pharmacy, Department of Public Health, the Food and Drug Administration, and the Drug Enforcement Administration, and in accordance with established policies and procedures. Maintains certification and credentials in accordance with the Board of Registration.
Responsible for the daily operations of assigned areas, managing workload and coordinating personnel in a teamwork environment, resolving operational problems, and assisting in the development and maintenance of pharmacy policies and procedures.
Evaluate medication orders; review disease‑state parameters, allergies, drug‑drug interactions, and duplication of therapy; communicate with physicians on discrepancies, possible interactions, or changes; inform nurses of problems and resolutions; document all interventions.
Provide drug information to physicians, nurses, and other health care professionals; continually evaluate quality and timeliness of dispensing performance; use initiative and resourcefulness to assure best possible patient service; communicate applicable information to subsequent shifts to ensure continuity of care.
Required Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Pharmacy. Doctoral degree preferred in Pharmacy.
License: Pharmacist.
0–1 year related work experience.
Licensed Registered Pharmacist in Massachusetts (or immediate eligibility).
Experience with computer systems, including web‑based applications and Microsoft Office applications (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access).
Preferred Qualifications
Direct patient care experience in hospital pharmacy, preferably in an academic medical center setting.
ASHP accredited residency is a plus.

Team Work: Ability to work collaboratively in small teams to improve operations by offering ideas, identifying issues, and respecting team members.
Customer Service: Ability to provide a high level of customer service and staff training to meet customer service standards and expectations; resolve service issues promptly and respectfully.
Physical Nature of the Job Sedentary work: Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally in carrying, lifting, pushing, pulling objects. Sitting most of the time, with walking and standing required only occasionally.
Pay Range $58.00 – $73.56 per hour. The pay range listed is the base hourly wage. Compensation may exceed the base hourly rate depending on shift differentials, call pay, premium pay, overtime pay, and other additional pay practices, subject to applicable law.
