Palo Verde Behavioral Health (PVBH) is an 84‑bed private psychiatric facility providing inpatient and intensive outpatient services with treatment programs tailored to our patients’ needs in order to achieve positive outcomes. PVBH builds on the expertise of its current psychiatrists, licensed registered nurses, clinical social workers and licensed professional counselors to support these programs.

Job Description The Psychiatrist is responsible to oversee the quality of care delivered to his/her patients. Assess clinical appropriateness for admission and collaborate with Intake/Admissions regarding potential admissions. Perform psychiatric assessments for individuals under his/her care. Complete documentation necessary to address patients hospitalized under civil commitment statutes. Provide individual therapy, family therapy and/or medication management as needed for patients under his/her care. Appropriately request consultations when indicated and provide psychiatric consultations when requested.

Qualifications

Graduate of an accredited medical school

Completed residency in Psychiatry

Board Certification Preferred

Licensed as a Medical Doctor (M.D.) or Doctor of Osteopathy (D.O.)

Prior experience in a hospital‑based psychiatric practice and outpatient psychiatric practice preferred

Must maintain active status with medical staff

Maintain current professional license

Where applicable, maintain current liability insurance

Current Level One Arizona Fingerprint Card or Arizona Fingerprint application in progress

Current Healthcare Provider CPR certification

Obtain Handle with Care Certification within 30 days of hire date

Patient Care

Coordinate care with referral sources and other involved professionals

Maintain regular communication with family members as appropriate

Return phone calls to professionals and family in a timely manner

Encourage patients to participate fully in all aspects of the treatment program

Educate all patients, whenever possible, about ways to facilitate recovery

Follow safety practices as outlined in Palo Verde Behavioral Health policies and procedures

Follow the protocol and guidelines of the inpatient phase program and other formal treatment programs

Help patients benefit from their insurance by timely completion of all paperwork, returning phone calls, and actively participating in utilization management

Medical Records

Complete assessments and reports within specified time lines

Chart each relevant contact related to the patient on day of contact

Chart entries should record the patient’s response to treatment, current mental status, progress in the program, and need for continued treatment if appropriate

Chart to specific treatment plan goals according to Palo Verde Behavioral Health guidelines

Ensure the treatment plan is completed and on the chart within the specified time frame

Complete a group therapy note for all patients in group therapy within specified time lines
