Position Overview Innovative Therapeutic Services (ITS) is seeking a Psychiatrist to provide psychiatric services to children and adolescents in a juvenile detention center setting. This role focuses on addressing psychiatric disorders, behavioral challenges, trauma, and co‑occurring conditions to support rehabilitation. The psychiatrist will collaborate closely with an interdisciplinary team to ensure medication compliance and uphold professional standards of care.
The ideal candidate is a licensed psychiatrist in Maryland with experience working with youth in juvenile justice settings and a commitment to trauma‑informed, evidence‑based care.
Onboarding and required training are expected to begin in February 2026, with staff assuming their full clinical roles effective
March 1, 2026 .
Key Responsibilities
Conduct thorough psychiatric evaluations and assessments to diagnose mental health conditions of youth
Develop personalized treatment plans using a combination of psychotherapy, medications, and other therapeutic approaches
Work closely with nursing staff to ensure proper administration of psychotropic medications
Consult with nursing and behavioral health staff to review Medication Administration Records (MARs), laboratory results, and other medical records
Complete Abnormal Involuntary Movement Scale (AIMS) assessments, with behavioral health staff assisting in tele‑psychiatry settings if necessary
Deliver emergency psychiatric services as needed, including 24/7 on‑call coverage
Provide face‑to‑face consultations within 1 hour of notification when requested
Attend clinical staff meetings as scheduled
Perform other duties as assigned
Education, Licensure & Qualifications
Doctor of Medicine (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO) degree
Completion of accredited psychiatry residency; fellowship in child and adolescent psychiatry preferred
Licensed in the state of Maryland in good standing
Minimum of 5 years practicing psychiatry
Experience working with children and adolescents in a juvenile detention center setting
Proficiency in Microsoft Office and internet‑based systems
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Willing to complete a federal and state background check
Reliable transportation
