Assistant Nurse Manager, Labor and Delivery Postpartum
Job Summary
In addition to the responsibilities listed below, this position is responsible for assisting the implementation of best practice models, supporting patient care delivery systems and practice standards in multiple locations, addressing patient/family concerns, collaborating with physicians and other healthcare team members, allocating resources, supervising equipment and supplies, ensuring a safe environment, maintaining clinical expertise, providing supervision, competency and licensing, delegating tasks, and performing clinical duties as required. The Assistant Nurse Manager collaborates with Nursing Clinical Practice to ensure compliance with the Nursing Practice Act, The Joint Commission, federal, state, and local requirements.
Recommends developmental opportunities for others; builds collaborative, cross‑functional relationships; solicits and acts on performance feedback; provides feedback, mentors and coaches to drive performance improvement; pursues professional growth; provides training and development; supports performance management guidelines; implements organizational change and best practices; fosters open dialogue; delegates tasks and decisions; provides support and guidance.
Supervises and coordinates daily activities of the work team or unit by monitoring execution and completion of action items; ensures policies and procedures are followed; aligns team efforts; measures progress; determines and carries out processes; resolves escalated issues; develops work plans; coordinates resources; removes obstacles; recommends improvement opportunities; influences teams to execute operational objectives.
Supervises hospital administrative functions: facilitates team meetings; identifies action items; manages compliance timelines and financial commitments; maintains utilization and productivity; collects, interprets, and acts on data; supervises cross‑functional activities including workplace and patient safety, labor relations, quality/risk management, and survey readiness; delivers audit documentation; meets budget targets through staffing and patient placement decisions.
Manages care delivery operations within 24/7 environment: supports large or complex work streams; supervises data collection for planning; coordinates daily operational activities and direct patient care; allocates resources; supervises multidisciplinary team; implements emergency preparedness programs; coaches team; ensures compliance with clinical, cost, quality, and utilization standards.
Supervises improvements to operations and technology processes: executes cross‑functional strategic projects; escalates issues; monitors strategic plans; tracks performance metrics; achieves integrated services across continuum of care.
Ensures safe, quality, and standardized care: monitors continuous quality improvement; ensures compliance with legal and regulatory requirements; designs and implements systems and processes to evaluate and improve patient care.
