About Us The AI Cloud and Developer Infrastructure organization is responsible for delivering and maintaining the tools and services engineers use every day at GM. We enhance the entire development process—code checkout, modification, compilation, testing, merging, and deployment—so that our AV engineers and others can focus on the problems that matter most in their domain.

About the Role We are looking for a Senior Engineer with an extensive engineering background, experience using a variety of developer tools and technologies, and who is passionate about developer productivity. As a leader on this team, you will mentor and grow engineers while balancing the needs and priorities of the business, our users, and the growth of the team.

Team The Continuous Integration (CI) Platform team owns our CI infrastructure and the tools that improve the CI customer experience. We produce high‑quality CI experiences and workflows, including services such as Remote Build Execution (RBE) and a FUSE‑based network file system for build artifact storage.

What You’ll Do (Responsibilities)

Identify engineering pain points and design scalable, maintainable solutions.

Influence the team’s technical roadmap.

Evaluate new tools and technologies through PoCs.

Ship improvements that directly impact engineering productivity and core company metrics.

Drive software engineering best practices and create tooling that encourages them.

Guide the team to balance impact delivery and technical debt.

Mentor and grow engineers on the team.

Set a high level of accountability and deliver impact both individually and as a team.

Set boundaries when selecting external requests and push back on misaligned requests.

Minimum Qualifications (Must-Have)

3+ years of experience designing, building and operating production systems at scale in the cloud.

Bachelors Degree in Computer Science or related field or equivalent work experience.

Experience designing highly scalable, reliable, and maintainable services.

Proficiency in Go, Python, or other languages at production scale.

Understanding of Unix/Linux, SSH, and networking fundamentals.

Attention to detail and a desire to improve processes and systems.

Ability to lead and influence internally and externally.

Strong research, documentation, communication, and defense of proposals.

Ability to make trade‑offs and communicate reasoning.

Ability to manage competing priorities and ship under pressure.

Passion for mentoring junior engineers.

Passion for self‑driving technology and its impact on the world.

Preferred Qualifications (Nice-to-Have)

Experience with GCP.

Experience with Docker and Kubernetes.

Experience owning or contributing to open‑source projects.

Compensation The salary range for this role is $170,000 to $240,000, depending on factors relevant to the position. Bonus potential is offered through an incentive pay program based on company, job level, and individual performance.
