Pay Range USD 99,237 – 173,680
Overview To support our continued success and growth in New England, CDM Smith is looking for an experienced and motivated bridge engineer to join our growing bridge group. The candidate shall provide technical leadership on a diverse range of bridge projects in New England. The candidate will lead and participate in all phases of bridge design ranging from scoping and preparation of final plans, specifications and estimates (PS&E) to construction engineering services. Our team focuses on delivering innovative and quality designs of bridges and structures for clients throughout New England and the Northeast. Our bridge projects range from simple to complex signature bridges. We utilize the latest technologies in bridge design and inspection. Our projects involve most project delivery methods including Design-Bid-Build, Design-Build, and Construction Management-At-Risk. We are at the forefront of bridge engineering and utilize the latest technologies and accelerated bridge construction (ABC) techniques for bridge replacement and rehabilitation projects.
Responsibilities
Provide technical leadership on a diverse range of bridge projects in New England, contributing to the growth of the bridge team.
Lead and participate in all phases of bridge design, from scoping and preparation of final plans, specifications and estimates (PS&E) to construction engineering services.
Design various types of bridge structures including steel, concrete, post-tensioned and prestressed concrete.
Design structures such as retaining walls, gantries, and foundations.
Perform bridge load ratings.
Inspect bridges and culverts.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Civil, Architectural or Structural Engineering or related discipline.
Professional Engineering (PE) license.
7 years of related experience.
Domestic and/or international travel may be required; frequency depends on duties and project demands.
Equivalent additional directly related experience will be considered in lieu of a degree.
Preferred Qualifications
PE license in Massachusetts.
PE in Connecticut, New Hampshire with ability to obtain reciprocity a plus.
Massachusetts SE.
7+ years of MassDOT bridge design experience.
Working knowledge in AutoCAD and/or Microstation/OpenBridge.
Working knowledge of structural modeling software such as STAAD, CSI Bridge, MIDAS, AASHTOWare, or Larsa 4D.
Experience with NHDOT, CTDOT, RIDOT, Massport, and/or MBTA structural design projects.
Strong writing and verbal communication skills.
Experience with movable bridge designs.
Experience with tunnel design or analysis.
