Overview Reporting to the Sr. Director, Engineering, the Director, Engineering is responsible for leading the capital spending process, managing project pipeline processes related to equipment maintenance or installation, instituting operational excellence with CMMS toward zero reactive downtime, ensuring effective wastewater operation with zero NOVs, and reducing costs through maximization of water and energy operations for Vestis Operations. This role is regionally/group aligned.

Responsibilities

Work with key leadership to align on priorities, business needs, and project opportunities, managing the project pipeline process across Vestis.

Execute a sufficient number of projects annually that significantly impact the business, targeting >$1 MM in hard savings.

Lead 2–4 concurrent project improvement teams (capital and/or continuous improvement) across multiple locations.

Oversee all capital project implementation across the region, supervising regional and plant-level project leaders.

Drive the Maintenance Excellence process, launch and implement CMMS, and improve PM compliance.

Collaborate with Sourcing to optimize MRO spend and inventory, ensuring target OEE/TEEP across equipment.

Maintain plant and equipment drawings, processes, and vendor information on the Vestis Plant Operations, Engineering and Field Supply Chain Share‑point site.

Translate process improvement findings into production specifications and standard work.

Maintain project documentation and savings in the Project Library.

Ensure standards for Capital, DMAIC, and Continuous Improvement projects are met.

Consistently identify project opportunities to improve the business using the project pipeline process.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Intimate knowledge of operations support systems such as boilers, compressors, generators, water softening/treatment, HVAC, electrical/controls, automation, and material handling equipment.

Knowledge of OSHA, FDA/Food Handling, HACCP, ISO 9000 preferred.

Ability to execute projects in fast‑paced, dynamic environments with a team‑based, data‑driven approach.

Strong coaching, teaching, and mentoring skills for technical and non‑technical employees.

Team‑building mindset with a bias for action and effective execution.

Comfortable leading Continuous Improvement events on the shop floor and delivering progress to senior leadership.

Willingness to learn industry‑specific equipment and processes to meet maintenance and performance goals.

What You Will Need To Succeed

B.S./B.A. in Engineering preferred, plus 5–10 years of industry/operations experience with progressive leadership roles.

Anticipate becoming a Certified Lean Six Sigma Belt.

Passion and drive to improve systems and processes.

Strong financial acumen and skill in financial modeling for project selection and P&L impact.

Proficiency with Minitab, Microsoft Office, Visio, and SharePoint.

Intermediate knowledge of Lean Six Sigma tools and methodology.

Sense of urgency to achieve results.

Exceptional interpersonal and presentation skills across all levels.

Decision‑making: systematic problem solver, persuasive influence.

Authority as needed and team‑builder.

Working Environment & Safety Requirements

Work in both office and shop‑floor environments.

Extensive travel required – up to 75%.
