Skydio
Senior/Staff PCB Layout Engineer – Skydio
Skydio is the leading U.S. drone company and world‑leader in autonomous flight, combining AI, best‑in‑class hardware and software, operational excellence, and customer obsession to empower a diverse audience of drone users – from utility inspectors to first responders, soldiers in battlefield scenarios, and beyond.
About the Role We’re looking for a Senior/Staff PCB Layout Engineer to work in a hybrid role: spend most of your time executing complex layouts directly while mentoring a small team of layout engineers. You’ll set best practices, own challenging boards, and ensure Skydio’s layouts meet world‑class performance, reliability, and manufacturability standards.
How You’ll Make an Impact
Lead the layout of Skydio’s most complex PCBAs—outline definition, stack‑up design, high‑density placement, precision routing, and release to manufacturing.
Mentor and guide 2 PCB layout engineers, conducting design reviews, coaching on best practices, and helping them grow as technical contributors.
Establish and maintain design standards, libraries, and workflows to ensure consistency and scalability across multiple product generations.
Partner closely with electrical, mechanical, RF, and manufacturing engineers to resolve trade‑offs and deliver robust, manufacturable designs.
Collaborate with PCB fabrication and assembly vendors to ensure impedance control, compliance with DFM/DFT rules, and reliable production yields.
Drive continuous improvement in tool flows, library management, and design review processes, including opportunities for automation.
What Makes You a Good Fit
Deep expertise in hands‑on PCB layout for high‑speed, high‑density, and mixed‑signal systems (8+ years preferred).
Expert in Cadence Allegro/OrCAD (v17.2+), with a proven track record designing and shipping complex boards.
Strong grasp of signal integrity, power integrity, EMI/EMC, and impedance control principles, with practical application in layouts.
Proficient in rigid, flex, and rigid‑flex PCB design for high‑performance embedded systems.
Proven ability to mentor peers, conduct design reviews, and guide less experienced engineers while remaining a strong IC contributor.
Excellent organizational and communication skills, with experience collaborating across EE, ME, RF, and manufacturing teams.
(Nice to have) Familiarity with scripting/automation in PCB tools, PLM systems, or experience with robotics/drones.
Compensation & Benefits Base salary: $147,500 – $210,000* (varies by skill level, location, and experience). Compensation includes competitive base, equity in stock options, and comprehensive benefits. Relocation assistance may be provided. Eligible full‑time employees receive group health insurance, paid vacation time, sick leave, holiday pay, and a 401(k) savings plan. Compensation may vary based on the position’s location.
Diversity and Inclusion Qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, national origin, disability, protected veteran status, or other characteristics protected by federal, state, or local anti‑discrimination laws.
Employment Details Seniority level: Mid‑Senior; Employment type: Full‑time; Job function: Engineering & Information Technology; Location: Based in the greater San Jose, CA area (or nearby). E‑Verify is used for employment eligibility confirmation.
