Software Guidance & Assistance, Inc., (SGA), is searching for a AVP, Reinsurance Accounting for a FULL TIME assignment with one of our premier Financial clients. This role will sit in their Boston, MA office.

This is a direct-hire, full-time position client cannot sponsor now or in the future.

Cannot work with additional layers of employment.

Our client is seeking an experienced reinsurance accounting professional to own reinsurance accounting and reporting activities across multiple legal entities and bases of accounting. This role sits in a collaborative, team-oriented environment and supports multiple business lines and senior leadership. The AVP will lead treaty administration, reinsurance accounting and reporting, transaction analysis, ongoing process improvements, and internal controls across US GAAP, NAIC statutory, and Bermuda statutory frameworks.

What you’ll do

Lead monthly and quarterly close activities for reinsurance, including review of journal entries, account reconciliations, and analytical reviews of results.

Develop and maintain standardized reinsurance reports used for monitoring performance and informing management decisions.

Review treaty documentation and ensure information received from and provided to external counterparties complies with treaty terms and conditions.

Prepare analysis and commentary on key business drivers impacting reinsurance results.

Serve as the accounting lead during the review and onboarding of new reinsurance transactions.

Develop and implement standard reinsurance accounting models to support consistent treatment across treaties and entities.

Maintain strong internal controls; support internal and external audits and regulatory examinations.

Support financial and regulatory reporting processes as needed (US GAAP, NAIC statutory, Bermuda statutory).

Drive process improvements and automation initiatives to increase accuracy, efficiency, and control.

Participate in cross‑functional and corporate projects, emphasizing collaboration and clear communication.

Oversee accounting and financial reporting for complex ceded and assumed reinsurance treaties, including YRT, coinsurance, funds withheld, and retrocession structures.

Partner closely with investment accounting, actuarial, and risk teams to ensure accuracy of reserve movements, deferred gains / losses, and reinsurance recoverables.

Develop governance, controls, and documentation to support treaty onboarding, premium settlements, collateral tracking, and related workflows.

Act as a key liaison for regulators and external auditors on reinsurance‑related matters.

Mentor and coach junior accountants and analysts; provide technical guidance on complex reinsurance accounting topics.

What we’re looking for

Bachelor's degree in Accounting required.

Years of experience in the insurance or reinsurance industry, or in public accounting auditing insurance / reinsurance clients.

Strong understanding of reinsurance structures and treaty administration (ceded and assumed).

Experience with US GAAP and insurance statutory accounting; familiarity with NAIC requirements and Bermuda statutory reporting preferred.

Team‑oriented, positive, and results‑driven, with a high level of personal integrity and accountability.

Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills, with the ability to translate research and analysis into clear conclusions and recommendations.

Highly organized, proactive, and comfortable driving initiatives and improving processes.

Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to collaborate with cross‑functional partners and senior stakeholders.

Experience with PeopleSoft General Ledger, Hyperion Financial Management, and SmartView / Essbase preferred.

CPA strongly preferred.
