The Physician Assistant (PA) is a licensed provider responsible for the assessment and management of various populations of patients, including diagnostic and therapeutic interventions, development of appropriate plans of care, and ongoing evaluation. This position works 13‑hour days, rotating days and nights in the cardiac surgery ICU and step‑down units, collaborating with cardiac surgeons and ICU staff. The BWH cardiac surgery service is a 24/7 PA‑run service, requiring work on nights, weekends, and holidays. Does this position require patient care?

Yes Essential Functions

Performs complete histories and physical examinations. Orders, interprets, and evaluates appropriate laboratory and diagnostic tests. Develops appropriate plans of care and follow‑up based on diagnostic, laboratory, and physical examination findings. Orders medications and writes prescriptions according to organizational and regulatory policies and procedures. Consistently provides high‑quality and timely documentation, including admission and progress notes, procedure notes, operative notes, and discharge summaries. Performs bedside procedures as appropriate to the patient population. Qualifications

Education : Master’s Degree in Physician Assistant required. Experience : 2+ years of experience as a PA preferred; outstanding candidates with less than 2 years of experience or new graduates will be considered. Licenses and Credentials : Physician Assistant state license (generic, HR only) required. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities : Skilled in taking medical histories to assess medical condition and interpret findings. Ability to maintain quality control standards. Ability to react calmly and effectively in emergency situations. Ability to interpret, adapt and apply guidelines and procedures. Ability to communicate clearly and establish/maintain effective working relationships with patients, medical staff, and the public. Additional Job Details
