Role Summary
VP, Enterprise Cloud Architect
At Synchrony, we are shaping the future for millions of cardholders and billions of transactions through cutting‑edge products that empower consumers and drive merchant growth. As the Enterprise Cloud Architect, you will be the architect behind the platforms that run our diverse applications, leading complex application migration initiatives from traditional on‑premises environments to modern cloud platforms (primarily AWS, with exposure to Azure and GCP). Your role will include leading Enterprise Architecture, chairing the Architecture Review Board, and guiding engineering teams and stakeholders.
Responsibilities
Define and own application migration roadmaps for enterprise portfolios.
Assess existing applications to determine optimal migration approaches (rehost, replatform, refactor, retire, replace).
Architect hybrid and cloud‑native solutions ensuring scalability, performance, and security.
Lead, architect, and review technological solutions that meet business requirements.
Drive cloud strategies, application architecture, and migration roadmaps while ensuring alignment with business stakeholders.
Lead discovery, assessment, and dependency mapping of application landscapes.
Partner with application owners and development teams to adapt workloads for the cloud.
Implement automation, Infrastructure as Code (IaC), and CI/CD practices for repeatable efficient migrations.
Ensure security, compliance, and governance requirements are met for migrated applications.
Collaborate with internal resources and third‑party vendors to resolve issues and provide solutions.
Establish monitoring and performance baselines before and after migration.
Work closely with engineering, security, finance (FinOps), and business stakeholders to align outcomes with strategic goals.
Mentor cloud engineers and solution architects on best practices for migration and cloud adoption.
Act as a subject matter expert in cloud transformation programs.
Maintain hands‑on technical knowledge of AWS services, cloud design principles, and application architectures.
Chair the Architecture Review Board and facilitate cross‑domain architectural reviews.
Perform other duties and/or special projects as assigned.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s or Master’s in Computer Science, Information Technology, or equivalent experience.
10+ years in IT architecture, infrastructure, or application development.
3+ years designing and implementing cloud solutions (AWS).
Proven track record leading enterprise‑scale application migration projects.
Experience with containerization, microservices, and DevOps practices.
Expertise in AWS services: EC2, VPC, S3, RDS, DynamoDB, Lambda, ECS/EKS, Terraform.
Proficiency with migration and modernization patterns.
Strong understanding of networking, security, IAM, and compliance in the cloud.
Excellent communication, stakeholder management, and influence skills.
Desired Characteristics
Knowledge of databases (Oracle, SQL Server, MySQL, PostgreSQL, NoSQL).
Experience in the financial industry.
AWS Certified Solutions Architect – Professional.
AWS Certified Advanced Networking, Security, or Database Specialty.
Experience with Azure, GCP, and Oracle Cloud Platform providers.
Salary USD 170,000.00 – 290,000.00 per year, eligible for an annual bonus based on individual and company performance. Compensation is adjusted according to market in CA, NY Metro and Seattle.
Eligibility Requirements
Must be 18 years or older.
Must have a high school diploma or equivalent.
Must be willing to take a drug test, submit to a background investigation, and submit fingerprints as part of onboarding.
Must satisfy Section 19 of the Federal Deposit Insurance Act.
New hires (Level 4‑7) must have 9 months of continuous service; Level 8 or greater must have at least 18 months.
