Department Dermatology
Mission or Goal of Unit To provide the highest quality care to patients with skin disorders in an atmosphere of compassion and caring and to contribute exceptional dermatologists and dermatologic surgeons to the physician workforce.
Chief Purpose of this position To provide high-quality dermatopathology diagnostic services, contribute to the education of future dermatologists and pathologists, and support the research mission of the Department of Dermatology.
Position Responsibilities
Teaching
The faculty member will participate in the education of dermatology and pathology residents, fellows, and medical students. Responsibilities include leading dermatopathology teaching sessions, supervising trainees during slide reviews, and contributing to departmental Grand Rounds and other academic forums.
Research
The faculty member is encouraged to engage in scholarly activities, including clinical or translational research in dermatopathology. Participation in collaborative research projects and publication in peer-reviewed journals is expected.
Service
The faculty member will support the Department's and University's missions by serving on institutional committees and participating in professional organizations, particularly those related to dermatopathology and dermatology.
Clinical
The faculty member will provide dermatopathology diagnostic services, including interpretation of skin biopsies and consultations. Clinical responsibilities may also include limited direct patient care in dermatology, depending on the candidate's interests and training. The expected workload is eight diagnostic sessions per week (one week = eight sessions).
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications:
Medical degree (MD or DO)
Board Certified or Board Eligible in Dermatopathology
Eligible for medical licensure in Virginia
Demonstrated ability to work in and foster an environment of respect, professionalism and civility with a population of faculty, staff, and students from all backgrounds and experiences, or a commitment to do so as a faculty member at VCU.
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience in an academic medical center, including teaching residents and medical students
Active engagement in scholarly activities, including research and publication
Salary Range Commensurate with experience
