Company Description We’re representing one of the fastest-growing private companies in the world, having scaled from $1M to $500M in revenue run rate in under two years while remaining highly profitable. The company builds AI‑powered systems that evaluate candidate performance potential more effectively than human recruiters — technology already trusted by the world’s leading AI labs.

The organization operates with a lean, high‑talent team and is scaling rapidly. This environment creates outsized impact for engineering leaders who want to shape foundational systems, influence company direction, and build critical infrastructure that directly supports frontier AI development.

What You Will Do As

Tech Lead Manager, Fraud , you will own one of the most critical technical functions within the company: fraud measurement and prevention. This role combines hands‑on technical leadership with team ownership, setting direction for systems that underpin trust with the world’s most advanced AI organizations.

You will split your time between

individual contribution and technical leadership , with a strong emphasis on backend systems and platform reliability.

You will:

Set the technical direction for a high‑impact fraud prevention function central to the company’s core platform.

Lead and manage the fraud engineering team, prioritizing system design, backend excellence, and scalability.

Own the machine learning component of the fraud platform, including model training, evaluation, and deployment.

Design and evolve robust backend systems that measure, detect, and prevent fraud at scale.

Establish engineering standards and guardrails that enable rapid growth without sacrificing reliability.

Drive architecture decisions, code reviews, and hands‑on development of production systems.

Identify, prioritize, and resolve technical and organizational bottlenecks as the platform scales.

Partner cross‑functionally with product, operations, and data teams to align fraud strategy with business outcomes.

Translate technical decisions into clear business impact, particularly around trust, risk, and marketplace economics.

Hire, onboard, and develop top‑tier engineering talent as the team grows.

Ideal Background The ideal candidate is a builder‑leader with a strong backend foundation who thrives in high‑ownership, high‑growth environments and enjoys tackling ambiguous, high‑stakes problems.

Minimum of 3+ years of relevant industry experience in backend engineering or platform‑focused roles.

Strong background in backend engineering and system design; experience owning production systems end‑to‑end.

Proven individual contributor background with the ability to lead technically from the front.

Experience managing or leading engineers while remaining hands‑on with code.

Comfort operating in fast‑scaling environments and bringing structure without unnecessary process.

Strong communicator, able to explain technical tradeoffs clearly to both technical and non‑technical stakeholders.

AI/ML experience is a plus, but

not a requirement . Candidates with experience in traditional recommender systems or ranking systems (2017–2021 era) are highly relevant.

4. Preferred

Experience on fraud teams at gig economy or labor platforms (e.g., Uber, DoorDash, Instacart, Bird).

Background in fintech or crypto platforms, particularly fraud, risk, or trust systems (e.g., Stripe, Coinbase, Robinhood).

Experience at fraud or identity vendors such as Persona or Checkr.

Familiarity with ML‑powered decision systems, model evaluation, or research‑adjacent infrastructure.

Track record of balancing deep technical rigor with business alignment and outcomes.

5. Compensation and Benefits and Other Things

Compensation:

Highly competitive base salary, commensurate with experience.

Equity:

Generous equity package reflecting the criticality of the role.

Work Model:

Full‑time, onsite in San Francisco.

Impact:

Ownership of one of the most important systems in the company — fraud prevention is a core differentiator and foundational to trust with frontier AI labs.

Growth:

Hybrid builder/leader role with a clear path to scaling scope, team size, and organizational influence.

Environment:

Collaborative, mission‑driven team operating at exceptional speed with outsized learning opportunities.

Why This Role Matters Fraud measurement and prevention is mission‑critical to the company’s success. Excellence in this function enables trusted partnerships with the world’s leading AI labs and unlocks access to highly sensitive, high‑impact work. This role sits at the center of trust, scale, and long‑term differentiation.

Salary Range: $130,000-$500,000 base.
