Job Description The Boston College Libraries seek a highly collaborative and innovative

Head Librarian

to lead the Theology and Ministry Library (TML), which serves Boston College’s Clough School of Theology and Ministry (CSTM), St. John’s Seminary (Archdiocese of Boston), and the greater Boston College and global community of scholars and practitioners. The CSTM enjoys a consistent top‑tier worldwide ranking in theology, divinity, and religious studies.

Successful candidates will have an inherent desire to develop and assess services, and a demonstrated record of successful implementation of strategies that enhance teaching, learning, research and collections in all formats. The Head Librarian must be a hands‑on team leader, ready and willing to take part in the day‑to‑day work of the library. The Head Librarian manages five people and develops services and programs that support the CSTM, St. John’s Seminary and the BC Libraries. The TML shares a building on the Brighton Campus with the Catholic Religious Archives (CRA), and collaborates closely with the CRA to provide services and facilities management. The Head serves on relevant CSTM administrative and advisory committees, on BC Libraries administrative committees and task forces, and represents Boston College on the Boston Theological Inter‑religious Consortium Librarians Committee.

Together with the faculty in Boston College's Theology Department, the CSTM faculty make up the largest faculty at a Catholic theological school in North America.

Full‑Time Equivalent Hiring Range: $92,550 to $115,700; salary commensurate with relevant experience.

Requirements

ALA‑accredited MLS required; graduate degree in a theology or related field of studies preferred

At least five years of increasingly responsible experience in an academic library

Strong vision and understanding of library trends and development in higher education

Excellent understanding of technology resources, services and trends in higher education and academic libraries

Demonstrated strategic planning and project management skills

Demonstrated management and problem‑solving skills

Flexibility and ability to adapt to a changing environment
