Position Description
A utility-scale, Renewable Energy Developer that helps manage the development of utility-scale generation projects. This is a commercially focused, multi-disciplined role that is responsible for several projects at various stages of development.
Must have project management experience in renewables with a preference for development experience in the WECC.
Be able to communicate project attributes and key risks to the management team in support of investment decision making.
Experience with commercial off-take arrangements including negotiations and execution of contracts (VPPAs, fully bundled PPAs, REC-only PPAs, etc.). Commercial relationships with buyers (Corporates, Utilities, Munis/Coops, etc) is a plus.
Lead project coordination with internal teams and external consultants, including project finance, engineering, construction, and legal teams.
Independently manage and perform project development tasks to advance projects in development pipeline to construction and operational phases.
Must be a task flexible, goal orientated, team contributor with proven communication skillset.
Leads off take origination/utility-RFP response and pursuing alternative power marketing opportunities
Builds market position by locating, developing, defining, negotiating, and closing business relationships
Support acquisitions and JVs and conducts due diligence.
Grows and maintains an active network of prospects. Organizes face to face meetings and manages the process from first contact through signed contract.
Obtains internal approval for transactions and works with senior management both at EEA and EEH to obtain approval from the Board of Directors to move forward with new and current projects.
Manages multiple late-stage projects and/or existing JV with external developers.
Identifies future JV and development opportunities by contacting potential partners, discovering and exploring opportunities.
Screens new business opportunities by analyzing market strategies, requirements, potential, and financials; evaluating options; resolving internal priorities; recommending equity investments.
Develops negotiating strategies and positions by studying integration of new venture with company strategies and operations; examining risks and potentials; estimating partners' needs and goals.
Closes new business arrangements by coordinating requirements; developing and negotiating contracts; integrating contract requirements with business operations
Performs new market opening procedures.
Hires, supervises and manages day-to-day responsibilities of junior developer.
Identifies best practices by researching industry and related events, publications, and announcements, tracking individual contributors and their accomplishments.
Protects organization's value by keeping information confidential.
Updates job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities; reading professional publications; maintaining personal networks; participating in professional organizations.
Plans, manages, and oversees potential projects, including monthly tracking of key performance indicators.
Conducts business development activities consistent with EEA and EEH’s culture of compliance.
Education Requirements
B.S. degree in Finance, Business, Engineering, Economics, Science, or equivalent experience.
Master’s or advanced degree with emphasis in Economics, Energy Policy, and Business, International Relations, Energy Policy, law or engineering preferred.
Experience and Skills
5 years of progressively responsible technical and management experience related to the responsibilities listed above.
Commercial offtake- origination, power marketing experience
Prior management experience in energy development.
Demonstrated management and leadership skills with substantial managerial and technical experience in energy issues in the US and developing countries.
Self-directed, organized and self-motivated to accomplish goals.
Experience supervising others.
Verbal and formal written communication skills to convey complex technical investment information to a wide ranging audience.
Demonstrated proficiency with MS Office (Outlook, Word, and Excel) including presentation development.
A minimum of 3 years of proven project success acquiring or greenfield developing renewable energy projects.
Demonstrate experience in utility-scale, renewable project development or in power industry.
Specifically seeking project develop experience navigating the interconnection process in MISO, SPP, or ERCOT.
Must have proven and hands‑on professional knowledge of advancing development of assigned projects by managing internal and external resources to achieve site control, permitting, interconnection, RFP responses, PPAs, and other development milestones with minimal guidance.
Knowledge of and experience in the commercial/regulatory actives of CAISO and WECC
Solid understanding of project economic drivers and risks, with project finance modeling experience a plus.
Experience negotiating and structuring project off-take agreements, such as PPA, VPPA, etc.
Well organized and fully engaged to manage several projects during their life cycle from land prospecting through initial operations.
Be able to set up and maintain project budgets and schedules.
Ability to travel up to 50%, visiting project sites, third party consultants, landowners, or local officials as required.
Possess a valid passport and ability and willingness to travel up to 50% of the time as required.
