Description
The Digital Modernization Sector at Leidos currently has an opening for a Senior Unix Engineer to provide systems engineering, administration, and operational support for the Unix/Linux environment within the Washington, D.C office of the Federal Trade Commission (FTC). This is an exciting opportunity where you will leverage your Linux expertise in a dynamic hybrid role (1-2 days onsite) to maintain, harden, troubleshoot, and optimize Linux based systems across multiple domains.
Key Responsibilities:
Install, configure, and maintain Linux-based servers and systems (RedHat).
Manage system performance, monitoring, backups, and troubleshooting.
Ensure system security by configuring to CIS recommended baselines and applying patches and updates.
Collaborate with the other operations teams to configure environments and troubleshoot system-related issues.
Third party application installation and support.
Monitor and resolve hardware, software, and networking issues in a timely manner.
Perform routine system upgrades, patching, and security compliance checks.
Provide troubleshooting and technical support for escalated issues.
Resolve incidents and tasks as assigned.
Provide emergency response to critical outages or incidents.
Document system configurations, procedures, and troubleshooting steps for internal use.
Required Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems or related field and 8–12 years of experience OR a Master’s degree with 6–10 years of experience. Additional experience may be considered in lieu of degree.
Skills commensurate with primary responsibilities described above.
Solid understanding of networking protocols (TCP/IP, DNS, HTTP/HTTPS, VPN, etc.).
Experience with virtualization technologies (VMware, Hyper‑V, etc.).
Expertise in shell scripting (Bash, Python, etc.) and troubleshooting.
Experience with version control tools like Git.
Expertise in Red Hat Satellite.
Understanding of system security best practices and automation tools.
Strong organizational skills with attention to detail.
Demonstrated ability to complete technical projects independently.
Strong problem‑solving skills, along with excellent written and oral communication skills.
Ability to obtain Public Trust clearance.
Candidate must be able to meet DoD IAT Level 2 Certification requirements (Currently Security+ CE, CCNA‑Security, GSEC, or SSCP).
Preferred Qualifications
Red Hat Certified Engineer (RHCE) or Linux Professional Institute Certification (LPIC-2).
CompTIA Linux+.
