Cast Specialist
Location: Pearland, TX
Employment Type: Full-Time | Temporary Assignment (6 months, potential extension)
Schedule: Monday–Friday, flexible between 6:30 a.m.–6:30 p.m.
Compensation: $19.00–$21.00 per hour
Position Overview
We are seeking a skilled Cast Specialist to join a dynamic orthopedic care team. This role provides hands-on support in the application, removal, and adjustment of casts, splints, and orthopedic appliances while ensuring patient comfort, safety, and proper recovery. The ideal candidate has clinical knowledge, technical expertise, and experience with durable medical equipment (DME).
Key Responsibilities
Apply, remove, and adjust casts and splints under physician guidance
Assist with orthopedic procedures, including wound care and fracture reductions
Prepare and fit orthopedic appliances such as pre-operative braces, crutches, and other soft goods
Conduct measurements for custom brace fittings
Educate patients on proper cast and brace care, mobility, and safety
Set up and adjust traction equipment, pulleys, ropes, and frames as needed
Maintain a clean, organized cast and soft goods area
Manage inventory of specialty supplies and DME for patient care
Collect patient data to support billing for orthopedic equipment
Support departmental quality improvement and clinic efficiency initiatives
Collaborate with healthcare team members while maintaining patient-centered care
Required Certifications & Skills
Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
Strong knowledge of anatomy, physiology, and medical terminology
Expertise in casting materials, splints, braces, and orthopedic equipment
Hands-on casting experience is required
Education & Experience
High school diploma required
Minimum of one year of experience in a hospital, clinic, or medical practice setting
Physical Requirements
Ability to exert up to 100 pounds occasionally , 50 pounds frequently , and 20 pounds constantly to move objects
