Join the HV Substation Commissioning Engineer role on the Amazon Commissioning Team at Amazon Web Services (AWS) . Core Responsibilities
Oversee and coordinate multi‑discipline work related to pre‑commissioning and commissioning of medium and high‑voltage infrastructure associated with Amazon’s expanding data center footprint.
Manage and support vendors, providing multi‑discipline input into scheduling, design, and planning of projects to contractors and other teams.
Review all commissioning documents to ensure compliance with design basis, specifications, and standards.
Lead concurrent projects to meet delivery schedules while maintaining compliance with health and safety policies, standards and finances.
Audit commissioning activities to ensure compliance with environmental, quality, safety and commissioning requirements, reporting progress and metrics to the ACx Regional Manager.
Perform physical tasks on job sites, including walking uneven terrain, working at heights, and lifting up to 50 pounds.
Physical Requirements
Walk job sites in uneven terrain; work at heights from ladders.
Regularly walk, use hands and fingers, reach with arms; stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl.
Lift and/or move up to 49 pounds; participate in group lifts for 50 pounds or more.
Carry objects weighing up to 49 pounds for short distances.
Work shifts longer than eight hours with potential for night and weekend work.
Perform physical tasks without becoming overly tired; manipulate small wires and objects easily.
Work in a noisy environment; tolerate varying temperature extremes.
Use handheld equipment for troubleshooting; respond to off‑hour emergency calls.
Basic Qualifications
5+ years of engineering, installation, or startup/commissioning of HV/MV substation electrical systems.
Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or 5 years of relevant discipline work experience.
High technical competency in electrical systems and ability to review design documentation, drawings, specifications, and test scripts.
Develop and review MV/HV/EHV per‑functional checklists, startup and functional test scripts for switchgear, relays, DC systems, power transformers, instrumentation transformers, and grounding systems.
Vendor management experience and ability to coordinate with commissioning authorities in accordance with Amazon practices.
Preferred Qualifications
Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite; advanced knowledge of SharePoint (or similar) preferred.
Strong communication skills, detail oriented, highly organized, and able to work in high‑stress environments.
Advanced knowledge of mechanical, electrical, and controls systems for critical infrastructures.
Experience developing and executing test procedures for mechanical or electrical systems/components based on design intent and approved equipment submittals.
