Sr. Power Avionics Hardware Test Engineer, Amazon Leo Amazon Leo is Amazon’s low‑Earth‑orbit satellite network. Our mission is to deliver fast, reliable internet connectivity to customers beyond the reach of existing networks. From individual households to schools, hospitals, businesses and government agencies, Amazon Leo will serve people and organizations operating in locations without reliable connectivity. Export Control Requirement : Due to applicable export control laws and regulations, candidates must be a U.S. citizen or national, a U.S. permanent resident (i.e., current Green Card holder), or be lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum. Role Serve as the primary engineering liaison between production, test, and design teams, triaging and resolving hardware testing and manufacturing issues in real time. Optimize manufacturing test flows for avionics systems, improving measurement quality, test efficiency, throughput and robustness. Review and approve manufacturing processes and work instructions for assembly and test of avionics hardware. Lead disposition and corrective action for non‑conformances during production test. Lead MRB activities for PCBA and subsystem‑level hardware and work directly with development engineers to drive RCCA. Create and deliver training, troubleshooting guides and improved work instructions to reduce recurring support burdens on your team. Troubleshoot, diagnose and repair test setups for avionics systems in production. Partner with test engineering to improve test architecture, reduce cycle time and ensure high‑quality data capture. Collaborate with manufacturing engineering to reduce workmanship errors and strengthen process capability. Develop and maintain manufacturing KPI reporting tools, including yield trends, test‑escape analysis, cycle times, nonconformance velocity and equipment performance. Travel to contract manufacturers ( A day in the life As a senior power avionics hardware test engineer, you will operate at the interface of design engineering and manufacturing. You will own MRB for your subsystem(s) and drive rapid disposition of nonconforming hardware. Your deep understanding of how your avionics systems are tested will enable you to root‑cause issues quickly—whether they stem from hardware, test equipment, software or process gaps. You will co‑develop and sign off on manufacturing procedures, validate improvements through data and proactively identify opportunities to improve yield, reduce test time and strengthen overall manufacturing robustness. You will also be responsible for building test expertise across our production teams through documentation, training and hands‑on support. This is a highly collaborative role with the Power Avionics Design team working with test engineering, production sites and contract manufacturers. You will operate in a fast‑paced environment with a high degree of ambiguity—solving problems that have not been solved at scale before—while helping deliver the hardware that makes a positive impact on tens of millions of customers. About the Team Our team is responsible for designing and delivering power avionics subsystems such as propulsion control, solar array deployment and control, and magnetorquer bars. We take ownership and work hard to deliver the highest quality solutions to support the long‑term success of Amazon Leo. This team consists of a broad set of technical backgrounds, and we look forward to welcoming people that are excited to help us deliver broadband internet to underserved communities. Basic Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering, computer engineering or equivalent. 5+ years of experience in design, test or manufacturing engineering supporting electronic hardware products. Experience developing or supporting manufacturing test flows and automation within space, automotive, industrial or consumer electronics industries. Experience performing root‑cause analysis on electronic assemblies, including component‑level and system‑level debugging. Preferred Qualifications Experience with the project management of technical projects. 7+ years of experience in design, test or manufacturing engineering supporting electronic hardware products across the lifecycle. Experience leading hardware debug spanning hardware design, firmware and production teams. Experience with space hardware qualification and test campaigns. Experience with statistical process control (Cpk, Ppk, yield analysis, Monte Carlo, etc.). Strong understanding of PCBA fabrication, assembly, DFM and PCBA‑level testing. Hands‑on experience with hardware bring‑up and debug using oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, SMUs, DMMs etc. Experience using Python, MATLAB or similar tools for manufacturing data analysis, yield improvements, KPI dashboards or test automation. Compensation Base pay range: $128,600 – $213,600 per year (location dependent). Equity, sign‑on payments and other compensation may be offered as part of a total compensation package.
