Symbotic, Wilmington, MA, US, 01887
Who We Are
With an AI‑powered robotic technology platform, Symbotic is changing the way consumer goods move through the supply chain. Intelligent software orchestrates advanced robots in a high‑density, end‑to‑end system—reinventing warehouse automation for increased efficiency, speed and flexibility.
What We Need
We are seeking a Hardware Engineering Manager to lead a team of 8–10 mechanical engineers responsible for designing, developing, and delivering robust automated machinery and robotic systems. This individual will guide the hardware engineering team through all stages of product and project development—from concept design and prototyping to manufacturing support and field implementation.
What We Do
The Cell Engineering team at Symbotic develops robotic work cells and automation equipment that enable us to palletize, depalletize, and manipulate products and cases. The team develops equipment in-house but also works with third‑party suppliers and design partners to specify complete material‑handling solutions. The ideal candidate has a background in mechanical, electrical, or robotics engineering, with hands‑on experience in machinery design, integration, and safety compliance.
What You’ll Do

Manage resource allocation, workload distribution, and technical training initiatives.
Foster collaboration between mechanical, electrical, controls, and software teams.
Engineering Execution
Oversee the mechanical design and development of conveyors, sorters, lifts, palletizers, de‑palletizers, and custom robotic systems.
Review and approve detailed design drawings, BOMs, and engineering documentation.
Ensure all designs meet company standards for manufacturability, serviceability, and safety.
Lead design reviews, risk assessments, and FMEA activities.
Technical Expertise
Provide guidance on machine design, motion systems, and integration with robotic and control systems.
Ensure compliance with applicable safety standards (e.g., OSHA, ANSI, ISO, RIA).
Support troubleshooting and root‑cause analysis for complex mechanical or system issues.
Project & Process Management
Collaborate with Project Management, Manufacturing, and Field Service teams to ensure on‑time, high‑quality project delivery.
Drive continuous improvement in design methods, standardization, and documentation.
Participate in technology road‑mapping and contribute to long‑term product strategy.
What You’ll Need
Education: Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Robotics, or a related field.
