Job Description We work at the intersection of finance and law, providing counsel and advice that supports activities across the firm. We handle litigation and arbitration, perform research and due diligence, aid in financing and legal filings, deal with contracts and intellectual property rights. The role focuses on the regulation, establishment, management, governance, distribution and marketing of registered funds which invest in public‑market securities, including equity, debt, credit, real estate, infrastructure and impact investments. The attorney will support portfolio‑management teams on transactions for investment funds and related accounts, and lead strategic initiatives for GSAM’s public‑investing business.

Responsibilities Provide legal support for the establishment, governance, and operation of registered investment funds (mutual funds, ETFs, interval funds, and business development companies). Identify legal and reputational risks, manage external counsel, and collaborate with investment and related committees. Contribute to the analysis of evolving regulatory frameworks and formulate strategic responses to changing legal environments.

Prerequisites & Qualifications

4+ years of related legal experience, either in a well‑regarded law firm or in‑house role.

Expertise in the Investment Company Act.

Working knowledge of the Investment Advisers Act is useful.

Outstanding law school and law firm credentials.

Strong analytical, judgment, and written and verbal communication skills.

Team player with motivation to expand skill set in a challenging environment.

Preferred Experience

Experience in fund formation and regulatory compliance.

Leadership in risk management and strategic legal initiatives.

Ability to manage external counsel and coordinate with investment committees.

Salary Range The expected base salary for the New York, New York or Dallas, TX position is $170,000–$270,000, with potential discretionary bonus eligibility for active employees.
