Position Summary The Head Wrestling Coach is responsible for the planning, organization, supervision, and evaluation of the high school wrestling program. The Head Coach instructs student-athletes in fundamental skills, strategy, and physical conditioning necessary to achieve individual and team success while supporting the mission and athletic philosophy of RSU 57.
Qualifications
Knowledge and background in the sport of wrestling.
Meets RSU 57 eligibility requirements, including:
First Aid Certification
CPR Certification
Concussion Management Course
Heat Acclimatization Course
RSU 57 Background Check
Maine Department of Education Criminal History Record Check
All requirements must be met within timelines specified by RSU 57.
Essential Duties And Responsibilities
Organize and supervise all aspects of the high school wrestling program.
Demonstrate thorough knowledge of local, state, and school athletic policies and procedures.
Implement and enforce athletic department policies and team rules.
Attend all required meetings as scheduled by the school, Athletic Director, and Maine Principals’ Association (MPA).
Emphasize the importance of academics, sportsmanship, citizenship, and character development as part of the athletic philosophy.
Maintain high standards for athlete performance and conduct.
Model appropriate behavior, professionalism, and sportsmanship at all times.
Dress appropriately for practices, competitions, and meetings.
Apply sound knowledge of the sport, including training and conditioning techniques.
Seek opportunities for professional growth and incorporate new techniques and ideas when appropriate.
Teach skills that are developmentally appropriate and safe for individual student-athletes.
Supervise student-athletes at all times to ensure safety and accountability.
Maintain, inventory, store, and care for athletic equipment and uniforms.
Inspect equipment and facilities regularly to ensure safe conditions.
Prepare for and supervise all scheduled practices, competitions, and events.
Establish, communicate, and enforce appropriate team rules and expectations.
Utilize appropriate emergency procedures and injury response protocols.
Encourage leadership and positive behavior among student-athletes on and off the mat.
Communicate promptly, professionally, and appropriately with parents and guardians.
Participate in preseason informational meetings with parents/guardians and athletes.
Interact effectively and appropriately with officials, opponents, and event personnel.
Meet all deadlines for paperwork and related duties.
Maintain required records and documentation for student-athletes.
Perform other duties as assigned by the Athletic Director or Principal.
Language and Communication Skills
Ability to read and interpret documents relevant to the position, including athletic policies, handbooks, and state guidelines.
Ability to communicate clearly, concisely, and correctly in both oral and written form with parents, athletes, coaches, administrators, and officials.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with administrators, coaching staff, athletes, parents, and the community.
Mathematical Skills
Basic understanding of budgeting, inventory management, and record-keeping practices.
Physical Demands While performing the essential duties of this position, the employee is regularly required to stand, walk, talk, and hear. The position frequently requires physical demonstration of skills, including running, jumping, throwing, grappling techniques, and general body movement. The employee may be required to lift and carry items weighing more than 20 pounds. Occasional prolonged sitting and frequent travel by bus are required. Extended hours may be necessary to meet the demands of the position.
Work Environment The work environment noise level is usually moderate but may occasionally be excessive. Work is performed both indoors and outdoors and may involve exposure to varying weather conditions.
