About the Job Google’s software engineers develop next‑generation technologies that change how billions of users connect, explore, and interact with information. As a senior staff engineer, you will work on AI and infrastructure at scale, managing project priorities, designing, developing, testing, deploying, maintaining, and enhancing software solutions. You will support teams building TPUs, Vertex AI, and other large‑scale AI/ML workloads.
Minimum qualifications
Bachelor’s degree or equivalent practical experience.
8 years of experience in software development.
7 years of experience building and developing large‑scale infrastructure, distributed systems or networks, or experience with compute technologies, storage, or hardware architecture.
5 years of experience with design, architecture, testing, or launching software products.
Preferred qualifications
Master’s degree or PhD in Engineering, Computer Science, or a related technical field.
8 years of experience with data structures and algorithms.
5 years of experience in a technical leadership role leading project teams.
3 years of experience in a matrixed organization with cross‑functional projects.
Familiarity with infrastructure automation tools and concepts.
Quick assimilation of knowledge in machine learning and AI, focusing on hardware and software stacks.
Responsibilities
Define a multi‑year technical strategy for AI infrastructure that bridges high‑level business goals and engineering needs, building foundational control plane building blocks.
Lead integration of infrastructure with industry‑standard orchestrators like Kubernetes, Slurm, and Ray.
Oversee development of critical system logic: resource scheduling, configuration distribution, state management for massive clusters.
Translate vague requirements into scalable technical solutions and contribute to the global open‑source community.
Scale the engineering organization by mentoring talent, mitigating operational risks, and driving cross‑functional alignment.
