Job Summary The Senior Manager is responsible for supporting capital programming, prioritization, and the development of design standards for civil, site, and structural assets. The role provides highly complex engineering support to the Chief Engineer’s Office, Maintenance Departments, and Capital Delivery.

Responsibilities

Liaise with Capital Delivery, Design and Construction to perform facility design review and quality management functions, prioritize capital project scopes, and provide engineering support.

Coordinate with the Office of Stations and Engineering & Maintenance of Way to manage asset end-of-life with capital renewals, prioritize scopes for transition to Capital Delivery, interpret facility standards, review design of consultant and contractor work, and conduct site inspections.

Review facility design, construction, and maintenance standards; develop and oversee engineering designs at various levels of completion.

Utilize established methods and procedures to ensure infrastructure designs conform to MBTA requirements and standards.

Advise the Chief Engineer’s Office on capital investment priorities from a facility asset condition perspective.

Develop budgets and reports for proposed projects, evaluate impacts, and provide recommendations to executive management.

Provide technical advice and guidance on operational, facilities, real estate, and planning functions, and respond to emergencies as directed.

Minimum Requirements & Qualifications

Bachelor’s Degree in civil engineering, structural engineering, construction management, facilities management, architecture, or a related field.

Seven years of professional engineering experience in design, estimating, construction, and contract administration.

Experience establishing facility engineering standards for civil, site, and structural assets, and supporting mechanical systems such as HVAC, ventilation, fire suppression, and control systems.

Proficient with CAD, MS Office, PowerPoint, and graphics applications.

Strong communication, customer service, negotiation, and organizational skills.

Knowledge of Building and Trade Codes as they apply to MBTA facilities.

Valid driver’s license and ability to pass background screening, medical, and CORI checks.

Availability to work 24/7 during emergencies, extreme weather, or abnormal conditions.

Preferred Experience And Required Skills

Massachusetts Professional Engineering (PE) license or ability to become registered within six months.

Master’s Degree in a related engineering field.

Experience managing transit facility construction, maintenance, and operations.

Proficiency with MS Project or Primavera P3 for project resource loading.

Job Conditions

Effective communication in English; minimum age eighteen unless a high school internship is applied for.

Ability to commute to Boston metro area work locations.

Work all shifts, including 24/7 during emergencies or severe weather.

Intern/admin staff must meet full or part‑time enrollment and maintain GPA of 2.5 or above; valid work authorization required.
