Under the direction of the
Aquatics Director
is responsible for the overall planning, development, supervision, and administration of all aquatic programming at the Rite-Hite Family YMCA. This position ensures the highest standards of program quality, safety, staff development, and community impact through innovative and inclusive aquatics programs.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Provide leadership and oversight for all aquatics programming, including swim lessons, lifeguard operations, and water fitness.
Recruit, hire, train, schedule, and supervise aquatic staff, ensuring compliance with safety standards and certifications.
Lifeguard Instructor (LGI) and CPR/First Aid Instructor certifications are required.
Lead continuous training and professional development for lifeguards, swim instructors, and water fitness instructors.
Develop and monitor the annual aquatics budget to achieve fiscal and enrollment targets.
Conduct lifeguarding, swim instruction, CPR, AED, and First Aid trainings as needed for all association staff.
Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of staff certifications and safety trainings for Rite-Hite Family YMCA staff.
Monitor daily pool operations to ensure compliance with all state, local, and YMCA health and safety regulations.
Ensure programs meet community needs through ongoing evaluation, quality improvement, and innovative offerings.
Collaborate with community partners and internal departments to support initiatives such as
Safety Around Water .
Serve as a member of the branch leadership team and the Association Safety & Risk Cabinet.
Participate in association meetings, lead or assist with annual fundraising campaigns, and fulfill Manager on Duty responsibilities as assigned.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements
A bachelor’s degree in a related field or equivalent experience is required, along with a minimum age of 21.
Candidates should have three to five years of progressive leadership experience in aquatics program management, demonstrating strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple priorities, budgets, and staff teams effectively.
Current certifications in Lifeguarding (YMCA or American Red Cross), CPR for the Professional Rescuer, First Aid, and AED are required.
Additional credentials such as Lifeguard Instructor Trainer, YMCA Swim Lesson Trainer, or Certified Pool Operator (CPO) are preferred, or the willingness to obtain them within one year of hire.
The ideal candidate will possess excellent written and verbal communication skills and have a proven ability to build positive relationships with staff, members, and community partners.
SKILLS and ABILITIES
Regularly required to stand, swim, demonstrate aquatic techniques, and move throughout the facility.
Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds and perform rescues as trained.
Work in a warm, humid environment with air temperatures above 80°F.
Hear noises and distress signals in and around the aquatic environment and remain alert at all times.
Must be able to use a computer and communicate effectively using phone or digital devices.
Evening and weekend hours required; coordinate schedule with aquatic leadership team.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES Directly supervises all aquatic staff, including lifeguards, swim instructors, and water fitness instructors. Responsibilities include hiring, training, scheduling, performance evaluation, and ensuring compliance with all YMCA policies and procedures.
