Construction Manager – Substation Electrical/Utility
United Utility, a leading electric utility company headquartered in New Orleans, LA, is hiring an experienced Construction Manager to oversee and inspect substation projects within an assigned geographic area.
Overview Responsibilities include managing contract field construction and maintenance activities, ensuring compliance with safety, environmental, and regulatory requirements, and leading project teams to deliver world‑class field construction performance.
Key Responsibilities
Assigned project: high‑complexity substation greenfield and brownfield projects requiring close stakeholder interaction.
Ensure contractor compliance with Federal, State, Local, and United Utility environmental and safety programs.
Oversee contract field construction, maintenance activities, and ensure adherence to approved project documents and engineering practices.
Notify project manager of deviations in safety, environmental, schedule, design, materials, budget, and commissioning plans.
Review design and construction documents for constructability and schedule adherence.
Coordinate material requirements and delivery for construction site.
Attend scheduled project meetings and lead briefings.
Prepare reports on safety, project status, schedule, and uncertainties.
Oversee and coordinate contractor activities, and possibly develop or review commissioning plans.
Conduct contractor evaluations, project reconciliations, and closeout activities.
Maintain professional communication with customers.
Work extended hours during certain phases of construction projects.
Provide substation escort for non‑qualified individuals.
Key Qualifications
10‑15 years’ experience in substation Electrical/Utility Construction, with 3 years managing and supervising construction crews.
Bachelor’s degree in engineering, Construction Management, or related field (or equivalent experience).
Knowledge of applicable safety regulations, codes, and construction standards.
Experience managing unionized construction staff.
Knowledge of energy delivery power systems.
Proficiency with construction methods, procedures, and information technology.
Ability to work emergency restoration assignments as required.
Capability to access ROW and other remote job sites with uneven terrain.
Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills, and ability to conduct incident investigations.
