Senior Engineer, Transmission & Substation
Orange and Rockland Utilities, Inc. is looking for an experienced engineer to oversee the design, coordination, and construction of overhead transmission systems and electric substations.
Base Pay Range $120,000 - $150,000 per year.
Overview Under general supervision of the Section Manager of Transmission & Substation Engineering, the Senior Project Engineer will provide engineering design and support, requiring design, engineering and project management skills, as well as significant individual intuition. The senior project engineer will also supply representation at industry meetings.
Responsibilities
Serve as Project Engineer for overhead transmission or substation projects, preparing material, equipment, and construction labor specifications.
Support the Section Manager and manage lower-level engineers, consultants, and contractors.
Apply engineering practices such as site planning, layout, grading, drainage, and roadways to electric substation and overhead transmission facilities.
Prepare white papers, obtain capital rulings, develop project budgets, and prepare appropriations.
Conduct technical reviews of specifications, drawings, contracts, addendums, and construction documents for constructability and compliance with Orange and Rockland standards.
Utilize project management tools such as MS Project, Oracle BI, and other financial tools to oversee construction projects.
Prepare preliminary designs and cost estimating, developing project design alternatives as needed.
Coordinate field personnel with contractors and other departments, maintaining a strong field presence to monitor construction activities.
Collaborate with Real Estate to acquire property and easement rights for substation and transmission projects.
Track project expenses using Oracle BI, forecast monthly capital and O&M budgets, and provide departmental updates on project status.
Stay informed of latest industry standards, attend meetings, serve on committees, and participate in the company’s Emergency Response Plan.
Perform other related assignments as required.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s Degree in Civil, Mechanical, or Electrical Engineering and 8 years of engineering work experience, or applicable utility experience.
Experience with engineering design, construction management, or project management specific to transmission and substation projects.
Proficiency in the design of electric overhead transmission and substation components.
Understanding of construction and operation of a modern electric power system.
Strong analytical, technical, and interpersonal skills.
Excellent oral and written communication skills.
Computer literacy with proficiency in Windows environments and Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint, Project).
Driver’s License required; Engineer-In-Training preferred.
Additional Physical Demands
Must be able to respond to company emergencies by performing a System Emergency Assignment.
Must be able and willing to travel within the corporate service territory and for occasional out-of-area business meetings and conferences.
