Overview We are a growing small business government contractor supporting the Department of Defense (DoD) and Department of Homeland Security (DHS) seeking a Controller / Director of Finance to lead day‑to‑day financial operations. This role is hands‑on, responsible for accounting, government contract billing, compliance, and financial reporting in a regulated environment. The position works closely with the CEO and external advisors and has a clear growth path as the company scales.
Key Responsibilities
Own monthly, quarterly, and annual financial close and reporting
Manage government contract accounting, billing, and revenue recognition
Ensure compliance with FAR, DFARS, HSAR, and DCAA requirements
Track and maintain indirect cost rates and support pricing activities
Support DCAA, DCMA, and DHS audits; maintain audit‑ready documentation
Manage AP/AR, payroll, and cash flow monitoring
Assist with annual budgeting, forecasting, and financial analysis
Coordinate with external CPA firms, auditors, and fractional CFO support
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
7+ years of progressive accounting or finance experience
Government contracting experience required (DoD and/or DHS preferred)
Strong working knowledge of FAR/DFARS and DCAA audit processes
Experience with government‑compliant accounting systems – Deltek Costpoint
Hands‑on, detail‑oriented, and comfortable in a small business environment
Preferred
CPA or CMA certification
Experience supporting cost‑plus, T&M, and fixed‑price contracts
Experience in a small business or high‑growth environment
