Overview
This is a remote role that may only be hired in the following locations: North Carolina, South Carolina, Florida, Georgia, Ohio, Kentucky, and Indiana.
This position reviews and makes decisions on loans for the Small Business Administration (SBA) function of the Bank. Approves or declines loans after reviewing and submits to the appropriate party for further action following the initial decision. Ensures loan approvals are compliant with credit policies, procedures, SBA SOPs and organizational philosophy. Assists in mitigating loss, delinquency, and overall risk for an assigned credit portfolio. Provides guidance and mentorship to less experienced credit approval associates within the work group.
Responsibilities
Loan Review – analyze, negotiate, and approve or decline SBA loans and servicing plans. Assess credit risks and establish appropriate grades. Ensure loan decisions are consistent, objective, and compliant while meeting Bank and customer needs. Communicate credit decisions to all involved parties and recommend further action.
Credit Expertise – maintain current knowledge of market and industry trends that affect credit extension and communicate changes to lending personnel. Advise credit approval associates within the assigned region on analyzing, negotiating, strategizing, and underwriting credits. Serve as the primary contact to associates through knowledge of the SBA loan decision process.
Relationship Development – establish and maintain working relationships with management, associates, and business units to ensure commercial lending objectives are effectively communicated and carried out. Represent the SBA department on various committees. Participate in civic and trade groups to network for the Bank's benefit.
Business Support – identify training needs, process improvements, and skill deficiencies among line units. Recommend departmental policies and procedures to address identified issues.
Qualifications Basic Qualifications:
Bachelor's Degree and 6 years of experience in SBA credit analysis, lending, underwriting, or credit approval.
OR – High School Diploma or GED and 10 years of experience in SBA credit analysis, lending, underwriting, or credit approval.
Preference Qualifications
Knowledge of financial principles, concepts, and SBA experience.
Ability to analyze personal and commercial financial statements, P&L sheets, balance sheets, basic and current financial ratios.
Computer literate: fluent in Microsoft Office programs (Excel analysis required).
Strong analytical skills and math aptitude.
Self‑motivator with the ability to effectively prioritize work and deadlines.
Ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously, managing time and resources to ensure work is completed efficiently and within established timeframes.
Excellent written and oral communication skills.
Strong organizational, strategic, and analytical skills.
