Position Overview
We’re seeking a
Tax Manager (CPA)
with approximately 5-7 years of experience in preparing and reviewing tax returns, maintaining bookkeeping records, and providing client-facing service.
This is a full-time, on-site position located in our Chicago office. It is ideal for someone who can independently manage a book of clients, direct the end-to-end compliance process, and run point on tax engagements with minimal oversight.
Reviewing tax returns prepared by administrative staff and accountants (1040, Schedule C, 1065, 1120, 990, 1041, and others)
Signing and submitting accurate returns and reports to the IRS and state departments of revenue
Serve as the primary point of contact for clients, guiding them through questions about the results of prepared returns and offering recommendations for future action items
Hiring, training, and supporting junior and senior-level staff accountants and administrative assistants
Partner with firm leadership on process improvement, technology adoption, and workflow efficiency
Maintaining knowledge of tax laws and accounting regulations as well as any upcoming changes
Proactively advise clients on the tax effects of future life changes and events
Develop strategies to optimize tax outcomes for clients
Collaborate with office team to ensure accurate work and client satisfaction
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field
Active CPA license (Illinois or reciprocal)
Expertise in tax compliance and preparation
Proficiency in tax planning and tax strategies
Strong knowledge of tax law and regulations
Familiarity with professional tax and practice management software systems
Ability to manage workload independently
Desire to collaborate with office administrators, accounting staff, and firm leadership

$95,000 – $125,000
salary, commensurate with experience

Tax Season: Feb 1 – Apr 15, Mon–Sat, 9 AM – 6 PM
Summer: Apr 16 – Aug 31, Mon–Thu, 10 AM – 5 PM
Extension Season Prep: Sep 1 – Sep 30, Mon–Fri, 9 AM – 5 PM
Extension Season: Oct 1 – Oct 15, Mon–Sat, 9 AM – 6 PM
Winter: 11 weeks, Mon–Thu, 10 AM – 5 PM
