Senior Principal Systems Safety Engineer

Bill Rate (max):
$100/hr on W2
At Northrop Grumman, we are looking for a Senior Principal Systems Safety Engineer to join our team based out of San Diego, CA. As a Systems Safety Engineer you will play a critical role in our enterprise‑wide digital transformation, partnering with functional elements and safety programs across the organization. You will provide expert safety advice, perform hazard assessments, and support program success.
Key Responsibilities
Provide system safety subject matter expert advice on assigned programs.
Perform, prepare, and deliver System Safety Hazard Assessments (SSHA), Safety Assessment Report (SAR), Hazardous Materials Management Plan (HMMP), Operating and Support Hazard Analysis (O&SHA).
Assist in managing new hazards realized in operation, maintenance, or arising from changes in configuration, role, or environment.
Liaise with management, regulatory bodies, maintenance, engineering, and customer agencies to ensure all design activities are within the system safety framework.
Assist with the maintenance of System Safety Program Plans to ensure compliance with safety regulations.
Perform technical airworthiness risk analysis and risk management.
Participate in systems safety engineering reviews.
Facilitate and organize System Safety Working Groups.
Collaborate with other safety engineers and programs to share best practices and knowledge.
Provide guidance to Engineers regarding their responsibilities in accordance with the System Safety Program.
Recommend treatments to reduce risk caused by hazards.
Conduct independent system safety analysis as needed.
Provide training on System Safety Engineering processes and methodologies.
Qualifications Senior Principal Systems Safety Engineer
5 years of experience with a Bachelor’s in a STEM field; 3 years with a Master’s; 0 years with a PhD.
Knowledge of aircraft certification standards, MIL-STD-882, ARP4761 or other system safety standards.
Working knowledge of system safety tools and techniques including Fault Tree Analysis.
Experience leading and/or writing proposals, Basis of Estimates (BOEs).
Experience completing detailed risk analysis.
Ability to work across multiple disciplines.
Principal Systems Safety Engineer
8 years of experience with a Bachelor’s in a STEM field; 6 years with a Master’s; 4 years with a PhD.
Knowledge of aircraft certification standards, MIL-STD-882, ARP4761 or other system safety standards.
Working knowledge of system safety tools and techniques including Fault Tree Analysis.
Experience leading and/or writing proposals, Basis of Estimates (BOEs).
Experience completing detailed risk analysis.
Ability to work across multiple disciplines.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience with safety, reliability engineering, and air worthiness.
