Job Title
Wastewater Operations Foreperson I/II – Environmental Services Department, City of San José.
Overview Under the direction of the Operations Superintendent, the Foreperson provides technical oversight of the process area(s), the facility control room, the Operations Training Unit, and/or serves as shift Foreperson overseeing all the wastewater facility operations at the San Jose/Santa Clara Regional Wastewater Facility.
Responsibilities
Provide process control and supervision within the assigned area.
Serve as backup for Operators and prepare for and respond to emergencies.
Develop standard operating procedures (SOPs) and coordinate maintenance interaction.
Supervise operators assigned to shift or process area, ensuring safety of staff, providing performance management and feedback, scheduling, and training.
Participate in a plant‑wide rotation that includes control‑room operator, shift Foreperson (Supervisor), and manage a process area or assist in operations training.
Provide subject‑matter expertise in capital projects and interdepartmental collaborations.
Minimum Qualifications
Experience : Demonstrated knowledge and experience in at least three (for Foreperson I) or four (for Foreperson II) specific operational process areas at the San Jose/Santa Clara Regional Wastewater Facility or an equivalent facility.
Licensing : Possession of a valid California State Water Resources Control Board Operator Grade III Certificate for Foreperson I or Grade IV Certificate for Foreperson II, and a valid California driver’s license.
Valid state driver’s license and eligibility to work in the United States.
Proficiency in teamwork, communication, computer skills (e.g., MS Office, SharePoint, Access), conflict management, supervision, decision making, and problem‑solving.
Salary Wastewater Operations Foreperson I: $119,180.88 – $145,432.56.
Wastewater Operations Foreperson II: $127,742.16 – $155,872.08.
The pay range includes a 5% ongoing non‑pensionable compensation pay.
