General Dynamics Mission Systems (GDMS) is seeking a talented and highly motivated Reverse Engineer to join our innovative and dynamic team. As a Chief Reverse Engineer, you will play a crucial role in analyzing software and hardware systems to understand their design and functionality and then identify potential cyber security vulnerabilities and exploitable weaknesses. Your work will be essential in continuous improvement of identifying vulnerabilities, ensuring system integrity, and contributing to the development of secure solutions. The Chief Reverse Engineer will be a part of our Space, Cyber and Intelligence business.
This position is a fully on-site position with no possibility for remote work. The work is open to be performed in the GDMS Chantilly VA, Annapolis Junction MD, or Dedham MA locations.
Responsibilities
Analyze and deconstruct software applications and hardware networking systems to understand their structure, functionality, and behavior for both normal and abnormal operating conditions.
Analyze, decompose, disassemble code, perform static code analysis, kernel-level debugging, and debug and modify software.
Identify potential vulnerabilities and provide recommendations for mitigation.
Develop tools and scripts to automate reverse engineering tasks.
Collaborate with cross-functional teams to support product development and security analysis.
Involved in Protocol Analysis, Vulnerability Assessment, Security Research, Rapid Prototyping of proof-of-concept capabilities.
Conduct vulnerability assessments and penetration testing utilizing reverse engineering techniques.
Perform analysis of complex software systems to determine both functionality and intent.
Contribute to the design, development and implementation of countermeasures, system integration and tools specific to Cyber and Information Operations.
Document findings and create detailed technical reports and briefings.
Mentor more junior engineers to understand the mindset adversaries take when attempting to exploit a system and how to design mitigation techniques to employ with a goal toward growing a stronger Cybersecurity workforce.
Preferred Skills and Experiences
Proven experience in reverse engineering, software analysis, and vulnerability assessment.
Strong understanding of operating systems, networking protocols, and hardware architectures.
Proficiency in programming languages such as C, C++, Rust, Python, or Assembly.
Experience in low-level programming for Unix, Linux, or Windows environments.
Experience with reverse engineering tools like IDA Pro, Ghidra, and Radare2.
Experience with embedded systems and firmware analysis.
Knowledge of cryptographic principles and security protocols.
Relevant certifications such as GIAC Reverse Engineering Malware (GREM), OSCP (Offensive Security Certified Professional) or Offensive Security Certified Expert (OSCE).
Education Requirements Requires a Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, or a related Science, Engineering or Mathematics field. Also requires 10+ years of job-related experience, or a Master's degree plus 8 years of job-related experience.
Clearance Requirements Must have a minimum of Department of Defense Top Secret security clearance to be eligible for consideration. Willingness to apply for an SCI clearance with polygraph is strongly desired. Applicants selected will be subject to a U.S. Government security investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information. Due to the nature of work performed within our facilities, U.S. citizenship is required.
