A growing industrial forging manufacturer in the Greater Houston area is seeking an experienced
Metallurgical Engineer – Forging
to support and enhance forging process controls, metallurgical quality, and compliance with governing standards and customer specifications. This role plays a key part in ensuring product integrity across forging, heat treatment, testing, and inspection activities for high‑performance alloy components.
Key Responsibilities
Establish, maintain, and implement process controls for forging operations to improve product quality and consistency
Develop Technical Data Sheets (forging, heat treatment, and testing requirements) based on material grade, governing standards, specifications, and customer requirements
Review and provide technical input on customer purchase orders and specifications
Support the sales team with technical and testing requirements during RFQ and order review
Lead and support R&D initiatives for new materials, alloys, and specifications
Verify and validate mill test reports (MTRs), laboratory data, and test results
Conduct product failure analysis using laboratory and test data to determine root cause and recommend corrective actions
Interface with quality, production, inspection, and engineering teams to ensure compliance with applicable standards
Desired Knowledge & Skills
Metallurgy & Materials Science:
Strong understanding of forging materials, mechanical properties, and chemical requirements to meet industry standards
Production & Processing:
Knowledge of raw materials, forging processes, heat treatment, and quality control methodologies
Testing & Analysis:
Familiarity with laboratory testing methods, metallurgical evaluation, and scientific problem‑solving techniques
Communication:
Strong verbal and written communication skills across technical and non‑technical teams
Technical Proficiency:
Proficient in Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Metallurgical Engineering
Mechanical Engineering with a concentration in Metallurgy will also be considered
Minimum
5 years
of experience in forging and/or foundry metallurgy
Working knowledge of applicable industry standards, including ASME, ASTM, API, AMS, MIL‑SPEC, EB/NAVY, ASNT, and related specifications
